Greetings,
Any one know of a good Volvo Indy mechanic in Bristol
Please? I’ve found Elite Volvos. Has anyone used them?

Thanks

I’ll respond to my own question here. If anyone is looking for a good Indy Volvo Garage in Bristol area I recommend Elite Volvo in Bedminster.

I took my xc90 for the Anti Skid Service Required fault. I had already identified it as the Haldex DEM being faulty, or at least no signal from it. I knew it was going to be expensive. Indeed the DEM was burnt out and the pump right next to it was burnt too. New DEM from Volvo £1500, new pump £300. They ordered and fitted all of this and were about to return the car.

I received a phone call to say that an old returning customer had bought one but didn’t get around to fitting it and programming it. He was in for some other work and they managed to persuade the chap to let them try it on my car and see if they could program it. Anyway, they took the new one off, put this other DEM in, got it working and the DEM cost £500. We discussed it’s used and no warranty but given the age and value of the car this seemed like the most sensible route for me.

Phoned me up to say that this had taken a £1000 off my bill and they sent my one back to volvo. No additional labour charges whilst they tested this either. I know all of this sounds like a coincidence and the pessimist in didn’t believe that the stars had aligned in a short 24 hour window for this to happen but I’ll believe them.

I know I can find DEMs on eBay. I also know you can get your old one reconditioned for cheaper (mine was beyond repair) but for ease I used a garage who appeared to go out of their way in making my solution as easy and cheap as possible.

Cheered my Friday and weekend anyway. They’ll get my return services for MOT next month.

You have to take a leap of faith - but the net is the car got fixed for less that you budgeted for - that as you say has to be a good thing - how the replacement unit came about is irrelevant - had you not used them you may not have had that option...
