i have recently joined the Volvo ranks with the purchase of an XC60 and love it so far but i do have a question for all the technical guys & girls. The car is a fresh import from Japan and the sat nav is for that part of the world, The imported has said i will have to change the whole IHU hardware on the car?

Now the maps being for that part of the world does not bother me but just thinking about it i would suspect the system will be the same the world over just depends what maps are downloaded onto the storage device. My question is can it be converted via a download through maybe usb or disc would this wipe the japan maps and load the European maps?

The car is a MK1 Phase 2 2014 XC60

Try asking someone like "satnavupdatestore" or one of the many aftermarket sat nav update companies.

There's nothing to lose trying this and seeing if it does the job.

Fair comment if there is no cost implication, although just in case it junks the whole thing due to the language difference I would be seeking more specific advice first.

After a bit of research via the Volvo parts system i have found my car has head 11 (ihu) with some help from auto trader looks like cars of my age and chassis break number the uk cars run head unit 1. but they have 3 hardware numbers the IHU part number i reckon i need is 36050656 with hardware numbers 31396994, 31433368 or 31667696. but do the 3 hardware numbers relate to different software on board as my car has the Sat Nav & TV tuner so do i need a hardware code for a TV tuner as well As SAT NAV all getting complicated. Might only progress this if i can find a unit cheap enough.

I would be VERY careful if you are thinking of changing the head unit as Volvos are ridiculously difficult to do this with.

I have a V50 for instance, they come with a few different levels of system & most do/don't have DAB, but I can't fit a DAB equivalent unit to mine without the wiring loom for the car it comes from & major software reprogramming.

It is basically more than the value of the car to upgrade the stereo!

Yeah looking further into it the car has 3 antenna listed then a signal booster for the TV part and more options so think Google maps is they way forward.

Hi Simon, just spotted this after seeing your email.

I can't answer your question, but maybe take a look at

https://www.facebook.com/groups/464470200929636/?r...

https://www.facebook.com/D5T5com/

There's some pretty good knowledge out there using aftermarket software.

Good luck!
