I’ve got a 61 plate V60 D5 auto with 85,000 miles and full dealer history etc. I’ve not had it long and have nothing to compare it too, but above 1500 revs there’s an ever so slightly audible low pitched whine that I’ve been told is likely the turbo as it’s right by the bulkhead. I’ve also been told by the same mechanic it’s probably normal given how close it is to the cabin, and the fact it doesn’t change pitch with speed. It really is not loud/intrusive and I’ve never owned a turbo powered car or a diesel for that matter. It’s been there since I’ve owned it (a few weeks)

There’s plenty of boost, no fault codes and no warning lights and it drives lovely. Some online research tends to suggest I shouldn’t be worried about it, but I wondered if anyone here had the same with their D5? Thanks.

Sounds like you have a small leak. Having had that model and the later model d5 you can hear the turbo - when you are giving it the beans - but the rest of the time you can't.
It will only trip an error message if the leak is big, so a small one on a hose or joint will make a sound but not necessarily cause a fault code.

Thank you, well a turbo hose doesn’t sound too bad. I’ll monitor it and get it checked out if it becomes worse.

Oddly today it went away after a longer journey.
