Let's start the list with the P1800 & P1800ES coupes, the Amazons surely qualify too.

We can also include many of the T5 cars, not least those that shred their front tyres in 5000 miles...

My Wife's 'weapon of choice' is the V40 T4

'Only' 200bhp but a lighter and more nimble body

Its a surprisingly good all rounder and scares lots of hot hatches....so she tells me

Totally agree, i have a V40 T4 and it is brilliant for showing up unexpecting boy racers.

T4 for the best as everyone has heard of the T5 & R

Or perhaps a tweaked S60T5 like mine:-

340 BHP, 485 NM torque using bigger 19T turbo.

Evening aeroresh hows things?

Would post pics of my previous C70 but have no idea how to, also on 19' alloys and running a similar set up to the S60, never got the torque figure but it had 352bhp and really naff brakes!

easy peasy to post photos, you just need a host to upload photos to first.

Try:-

www.flickr.com/

then just cut and paste the photos' URL between [pic] [/pic]

Glad to see a familier face!...where is everybody?

Hehe, for a true volvo nut any of them really....I had a poor old 360GLE then a 240GLT (best car by miles) now have a 850AWD and a TVR S3 and recently a Scimitar GTC too...

The 850 runs rings around them ALL.

Often have some fun in the old volvo with a full load of rubbish, all seats out etc and still wipe the floor with all the German diesel wonder wagons....vroooooommmm....

Just wish the old gal sounded like the Tiv then I could just have one - doh!

Several Americans have dropped V8s into the old school rwd Volvo, I remember reading an article in Car&Driver about a firm that had sold Mustang engined 740 estates to both Paul Newman and Dave Letterman.

dundarach fit a straight through exhaust on the 850, be surprised how nice the 5cyl engine sounds with the silencers taken out or reduced, bit of a mix between a supra and a subaru.

Drove a T4 saloon with about 70-80k on the clock, and while the engine felt rather willing the body control was rather lacking...could feel the weight of the car...EVERY time you went around a corner.

In short - too soft to be a proper performance car, too much engine for the suspension it had. But fun in a 1-dimensional way.

Quite prepared to get flamed now, but that's my honest opinion.

Not far off agreeing with you havoc, the engine does overwhelm the chassis far too much!

The new C70 is excellent, drove it around rockingham a couple of months back and the handling for a cabrio is out of this world, had the top down aswell.

When it gets launched if any of the mags slag off the handling it will prove they dont like Volvo (autocar ah hem) theirs is no scuttle shake at all, they even had tests to get the car to shake and it didnt. One of the most impressive parts after the handling and the way the roof works was the option Dynaudio sound system (standard on the top spec ones) 910watts of pure quality, sounded stunning inside and would put many a nova to shame on the outside!

Havoc

What year was the T4 you drove?

IMO there is a world of difference between the phase 1 and phase 2 cars. Phase 2's enjoy much less torque steer, far better body control, more direct feeling steering. The end result is a far more positive feeling car, more chuckable and just more usable really.

Maycott - it was a facelift, think it was T- or V-plate. Is that a vers-2?

Havoc, that will still be a phase 1

Torque steery, but fun in a straight line!

...If you can get it to go in a straight line that is!
