I'm not that impressed by it to be honest, as a 'replica' it's miles away from the original. I know what they were trying to do but it just has too much of the modern stuff in it.

I've got an 8865 car kicking about somewhere, will have to dig it out.

It's similar colours, proportions, has similar functionality but is deliberately made with modern studless pieces - I think it's fabulous.

I totally understand it is why it is and like that it's faithful to the original.
However, I think they missed a trick in making a brand new chassis car set with tons of features and modern techniques. Put it all in a posh Porsche style box and make a big thing of the anniversary

They could still do that - I think this is more of an Easter Egg than a real 40th anniversary celebration set.

Seems to be triple VIP points at lego.com and in store at the moment. I think until 23 April, but don't hold me to that, because as usual their website is utterly rubbish at explaining the offer or showing any related small print.

There is also a freebie of a mini version of the Beetle that looks pretty cool, with purchases over £35.

Time for me to order Assembly Square, I think!

Makes me feel very old and bought back great memories of getting 8860 for Christmas when I was a child
Podie! Any chance of a group bulk buy on 42057, 42061 and 42063 to get this updated 8860 into the PH pockets? beer

Enjoyed the 8860 remake. I made the three models that it takes to make it and I was impressed with the details that are within them, it's been a long time since I built any of the smaller kits so it was good to see how they had come on.

I thought seeing as I was doing the remake I should really build the original too so I dug it out the loft and put it together. It's amazing to see how much the instruction manuals have come on, they are so much harder to follow.

I built the 8860 anniversary remake yesterday, and plan to get 8860 out of the loft to make it too. I really like the remake; the colour scheme feels very nostalgic even if the scale is different.

It is, no where near 8880 but the seats are brilliant. Mine has been in the box for the best part of 30 years and the last model I built was the porsche, it's amazing how far technic sets have come.

So, i get the 'cough' grandson a Getaway racer. First Lego model I've ever brought, and give it a trial build first only to find 1 grey bar about 50mm long missing!
Its the off side over head roll cage bar.
How do i go about finding a replacement, ebay?

Get in touch with Lego, they'll send you out a replacement, their customer service is great.

Though now i'm wondering if i was to buy the Hot Rod, i could find the spare part i'm looking for?
Maybe this should be in the frivolous purchases thread!

Blimey, that's an extra 20% off the already discounted from RRP prices. GT3 for £143.99 is a bit of a bargain, surely?

As has been said, I don't see how even with their buying power they're making any profit.

Has me tempted by the tractor and bucket wheel.

The Claas is the best of the bunch and a total bargain at £71.

My bucket wheel is taking an age to build due to life getting in the way, but I've found it really enjoyable and tempting to buy another for the B model.

I thought i had a missing part in my GT3 build in box 1. I requested a spare from lego (via thier website). However, on inspecting the model further i spotted i had used it in the wrong place - i had a similar part free so had to look where that should have been used. To get at it i had to disassemble most of the build from box 1. Glad i did this as it took 3 weeks for the spare to arrive, by which time i'd built the model.
