I really want to like the Mack but there is something not quite right about it. I saw this image in the group buy thread and realised what it was
The trailer proportions are all wrong. Side loaders have the front arm over the 5th wheel, so a twenty footer uses either a telescopic trailer like this:
20 footer mode
40 footer mode
or a trailer where the rear arm slides forwards:
(images taken from Hammar.com.au)
Nobody would have a dedicate 20 footer side loader because it wouldn't get enough use - in fact if they are moving 20s they usually move 2 at a time:
Looks to me like they've compromised the trailer layout to get the mechanisms in there and working.
Having said that I might by one and see if I can make it look right, or buy a couple and make something like this:
I just found the dimensions on the Lego shop site: truck is 17cm side and 58cm long, and with the trailer it is 18cm wide and 83cm long. In other words it is massive

Both cranes slide on the European container trucks, this is one in my yard a few weeks ago, he can slide the cranes up and down the whole length of the body, the twistlocks slide with the cranes so you can have 44ft 40ft 30ft or 20ft containers easily, if you wanted you put a 10ft on it between the cranes.

I’ve not seen one like that before. Thanks for that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzeG_OcQSxI
Still looks odd to me though

The guy driving/operating it told me that some of the big ones will lift 50 tons when under test, that's insane !
We run a 6 wheeler crane truck that will lift about 5 tons, his wins I think.

8880 my favourite set. Mines still built from 1994 when I put it together on Christmas day.
Yup same here, although it was built in 1997. Lives in my old bedroom at my parent's house where all the white has discoloured and the thing is caked in dust. Always think about breaking it down and putting the parts through the dishwasher but seems too high risk. I think I may have built the alternative (F1 car I think?) once, but it wasn't as good as the car.RE models good to go, if anyone is interested in the Unimog, Caterham, Mini or Campervan let me know. All built but only the Caterham has the box; I do have all build manuals though. Based in West London/Richmond for anyone interested - let me know.
ETA: I also have the Technic Flatbed Truck (8109) that could go as well.

New Technic range is 8n the shops today.
Had a good look at the Mack truck - big & looks good. Rally car looks good, better than the 911 GT3, the hovercraft is quite big & the racing yacht looks small.
Think my credit card will be taking a battering this weekend particularly as I have use of a ToysRUs staff discount card!!
