Discussion
I've said it before on this thread, but I'll say it again...
I think the old system had the right balance of part diversity and opportunities for innovative thinking. The various combinations were limited and simple and, if anything, that made it easier to think up new ways of doing things.
With the new stuff, I spend more than half my time trying to figure out how to attach beam X to beam Y (usually perpendicular) and find myself needing to incorporate a bunch of smaller jointing pieces, all of which are different and far too diverse to have a clear picture in your head to even know what the possibilities (affordances) are.
To put this in context, I used to love getting new models in the old system and building them for the first time: you could guess as to how the designer had achieved something and sometimes you'd be correct! Now, the new system is so complicated that you just can't visualise what the mechanism will be. So you wind up blindly following the instructions and the fun's gone. For example, I still struggle to figure out the drive paths through the clutches in the new gearboxes...
But, perhaps, I only experience this because I grew up with the old system and haven't progressively learnt the new system piece by piece.

Dilemma.
The bucket wheel excavator I picked up was always going to be sold on quickly, it’s not a particularly attractive model and takes up a hell of a lot of space.
I was going to build it to make sure it was complete and then flog it.
However, I know the excavator is complete because bags 2-8 are still sealed. But, it is missing the dump truck. So do I sell it as is, with sealed bags for the excavator but missing dump truck or build it and sell it as used missing dump truck?

A rookie question.
A few months ago I bought a ‘non Lego’ Bugatti. The pieces were bundled together in separate bags for building a page or 2 at a time. Seems sensible.
I got given a Lego Ducati as a birthday present and on opening it up it’s in bags okay but it doesn’t look like there are individual builds.
Do I just chuck it all onto a big box and search every single bit to find the right one.
If so...why can a knock off do this and Lego can’t?
