Technic lego

I've got a copy of the following and it's quite fascinating from a mechanical engineering perspective.



I would like to try and build some of the mechanisms so what would be the best (most cost effective) way to get a selection of cogs, wheels, shafts, couplings etc to try and build them.

It's been a long time since I bought any new parts and all the stuff seems to be frachised sets. Is it possible to just purchase a box of common parts that can be used rather than build a model?

Do they not do a standard motor anymore? Is there and alternative worth getting?

You could try the pick a brick service, it brick link. By the time you add some beam elements you might just be at a set cost anyway.
Or maybe look at some of the intermediate sets~£50 -100 to use for parts which aren't so branded.

Though of the Lego Porsches the GT4 e-Performance gets the most attention as it's not too bad an RC car while the others are slightly less exciting for playing with. At least that's the 5 year old's opinion.

My 8 and 10 year olds were enjoying playing with them last night. 8 year liked Rex and 10 year old preferred the RS. I think my favourite is the RSR, so everyone was happy!

Fair comment. In it's defense I'd argue its actually a better build the RSR but if you already own that and don't like the look of Rex then there's not much reason to part with the ~£95 it's going for new at the moment.

We spent all weekend taking apart this 42082 - what a mission! But now we get to start over again. Book one is on the table and book two is in the plastic crate.

I bought a used one and had to sort all the pieces (thankfully all there), built it, got 3 steps very early in the build very wrong.

Had to disassemble it back to the start and start again.

Thankfully it was during lockdown so time was available!

EPIC thing though when built and working properly!

Lego don't do assorted sets of Technic parts anymore but you could look for a second hand Education set like https://brickset.com/sets/9686-1/Simple-Powered-Ma...

A big assorted box of Technic off eBay is probably best though.

Maybe they sell well but to me Technic should include more big models of 'stuff', and ideally better engineered ones than some of their other recent efforts.

After the first dozen the cars get a bit meh.

Yup. I used to get a bit bored of another truck with a crane on it every year.

Well that's a strong 'No' from me.

Would rather spend a chunk more and get the Sagrada la Familia when that is released!
