If I could go back 25 years, I had 5,000 to 15,000 point epic armies of…
Space Marine
Eldar
Ork
Imperial Guard
Chaos
Plus the big 8x4 chipboard painted with green paint mixed with sand, that sat on top of the pool table
Looking back I really enjoyed all the different armies, painting them, the styles etc.
I kinda grew out of it but also the epic revamp was annoying as it was hard to continue building out armies when they changed the look of a lot of stuff.
Ie, Eldar heavy tanks went all generic and boring, vs their cool creative and interesting styles.

I recently found my Catachans a friend had given me 20 years ago hidden away at my parents
100 jungle fighters + a couple spare
Heavy Bolter + crew
Lascannon crew (lascannon itself is on its way)
2 commisars
Captain with power fist
Tank rider
Sly Marbo
I also have Maximillian Weissman from the Forge World Baneblade set. I do have the Baneblade too but I converted for my Orks many years ago and I dont think it can be saved.

I've stripped the paint off 60 jungle fighters and 4 characters so far. 20 are being traded with a friend, I may be able to save another 10
I followed a Youtube video on how to make my own basing material using Coir Compost, teabags and Italian herb seasoning

I've recently got back into the hobby via Kill team.
My first team is a DKOK veteren guard proxy using my old metal minis representing Schaeffer's last chancers and his 13th penal legion.

I'm in the process of painting the new ratlings kit, but so far i've done my ogryn/bullgryn which are magnetised to use all the weapon options.

Not going to set the world alight with my paint schemes as i'm just slapping on contrast speed paints but good enough for the tabletop.

Some really good miniatures posted recently, the level of painting makes mine look like they were slapped together by a blind woodsman! Keep em coming chaps, I'm hoping to get some 'painting' done this weekend
I've got a Lord of Contagion, Plague surgeon and Tallyman begging out to be ruined, also really need to get some paint on my Foetid Bloatdrone and Plague Burstcrawler they've been in primer for almost 3 years at this point

Nice flocking work. This thread is making me want to dig out a few old models I kept to finish off.
I always used to think the GW paints were decent (early to mid 90s). Assume they’re still good?
I've been back in the hobby for just over a year and bought Citadel paints and they're still just as good. Make sure you shake the pots well before use.
I've looked into other brands (Vallejo and Army Painter) but if I needed a paint guide, most use Citadel. It's personal preference I guess and also whats readily available for you.
My Citadel brushes are a little hit and miss though

Ah that's good news. I'm sure I saw them in a local Boyes recently so I might go pick a selection of colours up.I've looked into other brands (Vallejo and Army Painter) but if I needed a paint guide, most use Citadel. It's personal preference I guess and also whats readily available for you.

I possibly have a few pots from the 90s still, somewhere... iirc some that I found 10 years ago were still ok, but not sure if they'll have managed quarter of a century haha.

Some of those 'pots from the 90s' are worth rather a lot... I possibly have a few pots from the 90s still, somewhere... iirc some that I found 10 years ago were still ok, but not sure if they'll have managed quarter of a century haha.
Treat yourself to some non-Games Workshop paintbrushes! I like Winsor and Newton acrylics, but even cheap bookshop (The Works etc) packets of paintbrushes can be an improvement on GW ones.
I was going to recommend a W&N Kolinsky sable one for "best", but I have just seen the price has doubled since I bought one in 2020...
