It does have to be said - for someone new to Warhammer wanting to get setup to play games at home, it is a bloody superb selection.
Two really quite large and flexible armies, with decent units. Loads of paints/technicals/brushes. Tonnes of accessories, scenery, etc.
It's definitely good value if you want all the models and paints - about 30% off of GW RRP. However, if you're not fussed about several of the models, you're better off just buying the ones you do want separately (or even better, waiting until they pop up on Ebay for around 25% off RRP).Two really quite large and flexible armies, with decent units. As always though, the big savings were in the first few issues which were a steal.

Wow, it's like a BF4 reunion in here!
Glad to hear you're getting into the gaming side of it Karl, my New Year's resolution is to finally get at least some of my models onto the table top!
There's a few more BF4 players into 40k!Glad to hear you're getting into the gaming side of it Karl, my New Year's resolution is to finally get at least some of my models onto the table top!
Karl and Pilch were two of the guys Havoc and I met up with at WW a year ago - I'd already got back into the game.
Pilch is an absolute monster...
There’s been a leak of all the episodes, although the website quoted has since pulled the information.

That wound looks awesome! Even the pose looks much more dynamic than the ones I've seen in Battle Reports on YouTube.
Thanks I loathe a static pose where a kit allows flexibility or a story to be told... Hell, even when it doesn't a bit of cutting has seen me right haha.
For anyone that's interested, the contents of the first premium subscribers' box has been reviewed here:

Looks pretty underwhelming for the £25 or so cost off it.

GW "collectors" stuff is always really poor value for money and somewhat overwhelming...
That box is nothing on a £1k diorama of Guilleman, with an horrific gurn on his face, and massively disproportionate limbs.
Wow, that must have been released during my twilight years - at least tell me it came painted?!That box is nothing on a £1k diorama of Guilleman, with an horrific gurn on his face, and massively disproportionate limbs.
GW's businness model is weird, they seem to release great value limited edition box sets, without telling anyone that they are limited edition! A great example is the Kill Team starter set - sold out everywhere within a few weeks, but zero chance of it being reissued from what I hear.
That seems contrary to common business sense - if you could guarantee at least a couple of hundred unit sales. with the vast cost of those units (box and literature design) already covered, it's a no brainer to manufacture the additional units and sell them. You'll make even more profit than you did on the first tranche!
I guess the only explanation is that those great value box sets are used as gateway products to tie people into the sets and make them buy the more expensive standard sets to expand their collection, but it does strike me as odd that quite often there are limited edition items within those boxes that you can't buy elsewhere anyway (e.g. gaming mat in Kill Team box, Primaris Lieutenants, etc).
I guess a lot of thought is put into how they actually sell the products and it seems to be working for them, so what do I know?!
That Guilleman model has only just been released - by HMO miniatures.
Yes, it's fully painted - but the paint job isn't even up to the "ready to play" simple schemes Duncan does on YouTube!
Wrt "limited edition" boxsets - it's more "limited production".
KT starter set is a great example, of how GW stock availability is byzantine - local store (non-GW) had five in stock after Christmas ordered just before the break. That was, until I put various people from Facebook in touch with them.
But yes, they are absolutely gateway boxes, with great value for money - but crucially perhaps not great value for gameplay. They tend to include units that are unviable in the current game.
Oh, and Wake the Dead is still available for my local store to order - if you want another marine set just let me know. Tossing up between getting another, two Start Collecting, or the Christmas battleforce to flesh out my fledgling eldar warhost.

Sweet Honey BBQ! Didn't realise that had just been released - that is ridiculous money, but I guess it just goes to show the demographic that GW are now aiming at - middle aged, middle class men.Yes, it's fully painted - but the paint job isn't even up to the "ready to play" simple schemes Duncan does on YouTube!

Think I'm ok on the Primaris front Sway, but if you come across any more Klll Team starter sets, please let me know!
