My grandson who is 14 years old has seen my 1;18 diecast collection and wants to start his own collection.
The prices for new are mostly well beyond his pocket money.
So does anyone know of web sites or places that sell second hand diecast 1:18 model cars?

Try Barry Potter Fairs, or JJ Webb

Don't be afraid to haggle (take cash, but some will take cards, but most are cash) and go early so you get chance to get the pick of what's there. If you go late you'll miss out. Also, if you are not sure of prices / if it's a good deal or not, you can always check ebay on your phone (some sellers will ask crazy prices!)
As mentioned, a scale that's not 1/18 might be better, but you will definitely find a few bargains!
Now I seem to have centred my collecting habits on the 80s and 90s cars of my formative years, it's been much easier to add models I really want, rather than how I used to add anything that took my interest, 20 years ago.
I've got this 200-run web exclusive C36 from Norev on its way. I really liked the Siku and Minichamps models in this colour when I was a kid, but never actually owned either. So this opportunity, in fully opening 1/18, was one I couldn't miss.

My son and I are both looking to sell our 1/18 collections. Mine will probably be out of reach (50+ Ferrari road cars, all in display cases - probably worth about £1500)
My son s collection is a bit more mainstream though - let me know if you want a list
Top of this forum theres a sticky.. List scale. manufacturer, manufacturer item number and colour of the model. A photo helps. My son s collection is a bit more mainstream though - let me know if you want a list
When I've offloaded models. I've used eBay. Usual eBay caveats apply. But I had only 1 problem where someone tried it on saying the box was damaged. It was by all of a 5mm cut by the tab on the flap that opens on the side.
I was polite but firm with my point that I had never said the box was mint. Only the model. And they never replied again! After that, every listing got pics of the box as well!
I even managed to sell a GT Spirit E92 M3 GTS that I dropped and broke! Fully described as such lots of pics. I think there's some modellers out there who want a challenge. Or want to make something bespoke.
Went for about £20 iirc which went towards the purchase of the replacement!

Have never seen a 1:18 scale diecast. So it is the only 1:43 model in my collection. Started the GT3 register for PCGB. Other cars include9 997.1 GT3 RS in Orange collected from Stuttgart. Then a 997 GT2 and then a997.2 GT3 RS in Blue. A few more since then but now running a Macan GTS. This hopefully explains whyI have Porsche diecast and specifically 1:18 is the aim.

Few more additions
Otto R32 GTR (OT411)

Solido Hakosuka KPGC10 GTR (S1813001)

The Solido is not really 1/18 though. Its sort of 1/17 or something. Its just a tiny bit bigger than the other 1/18 cars I've got. Its not a bad model for £45 though.
My Skyline collection is going well. Will keep an eye out for a 1/18 KPGC110 GTR then I've got 1 of every generation. Collector OCD
My 90s WRC car collection gained an Escort (Otto OT1179)

Maybe "the big scale car thread 1/12 and bigger" as some people have 1/8 and 1/4 items!
I've only got a single 1/12 car. The 1/18s take up enough space with the boxes (kept for resale value of course)

Anyone got any of the 1:12 Otto cars? I've got a pair now, one of which is the Charger, but quite fancy an RS2 to sit alongside it.
Or do we need a new thread for the big brothers?
