Where did this come from? Looks very interesting, I'm assuming that's the Le Corbusier Unité d'Habitation in Marseille on the front cover.

Unexpected choices from the latest round of Lego Ideas...

How Seinfeld got the greenlight over the Clockwork Aquarium I'll never know.

Nowt in there for me. I like Planet Express and the Queen one.

Seinfled will be for the yanks and Home Alone plays to that market as well but is probably a bit more universal. They both look pretty dull.

A model of a pretty boring house from a film 30 years ago? Boring as. Also Seinfeld ended over 20 years ago (although it was massive to be fair).

Out of all the options there I think they've chosen the some of the worst.

With licensed Ideas all bets are typically off, so I'm never too surprised by those. The Zelda ones are gorgeous and I'm sure would sell well, but we have no idea what Lego has already planned with Nintendo beyond the initial Mario wave.

I hope we get proper sets like hyrule castle, bowsers castle. Donkey kongs tree house. Would be super cool.

I've noticed that Lego seems to be getting a lot more US centric with their sets.

Star wars, these choices and even the architecture range is now very heavy on US landmarks.

Don't get me wrong they are great models but it's a wide world and it's getting a bit old hat. The latest architecture set is the white house, a set that was already done a few years ago.

Where are the classical roman or Greek themes in this series or sets like the marina Bay or imperial Hotel from years ago?

cheap licenses, that's why. Big franchises like Star Wars are incredibly expensive in terms of %age of sales and minimum royalty payments. Look what that did for Revell. So if they sell ok but not amazingly they could end up making a loss on the product because they are still faced with a big royalty fee to pay to the licensor.

I wonder if Futurama falls under the same license as The Simpsons, which Lego already has/had an agreement for (Simpsons House, Kwik-E-Mart, minifigs etc?

Utter pants choices. Definitely for the US market. Even the next voting phase says 'fall'

No it will be a different license. Merchandise licenses are incredibly specific, down to scale of the model, whether it's glue or clip together, meant to be played with or a collectors model, where it can be sold etc.... the licensors want to get as much $$$ out of the licensee as possible.

Just to add that I forgot about the NASA stuff, Fast and furious, creator mustang. Stranger things.

Yup, Lego is pushing the US Market really hard.

Fast and Furious is significantly bigger worldwide than it is in the US (over 80% of gross box office is outside the US), so I totally get that one. Star Wars is actually the most US-centric major franchise, global box office takings are heavily weighted towards the US.

Fox I believe so automatically eliminated under Ideas Ts & Cs. You can submit whatever you want but if it relates to an already licensed property it automatically fails review.

That makes sense. Most Americans have no idea how a manual box works.

I thought I'd start making use of my son's absurd collection of Lego (since he was 2 it's all he has wanted for birthday/christmas etc, he's nearly 6 now). Pretty cool what you can do with stuff found around the house...
