Nice to see that you've converted the Vanwall and is it a Ferrari or Maserati behind? Brings back memories of 50+ years ago because my older brother had the Vanwall as a kid, quite a big heavy car I seem to remember.

Well spotted, its a Maserati 250F supposedly driven by Fangio; both that and the Vanwall (driven by Moss apparently) needed a bit of thinking about, it looks like there is a fair bit of room inside, particularly in the Vanwall, but they both have an early 'propshaft' drive mechanism which consumes all the space. In the Vanwall I eventually chopped out the plastic retaining screw pillar in the fuel tank, this left enough space to fit the pcb/chip - which actually made it even more top heavy!
So, I then drilled out the magnet hole and lowered that about 2 mm, which surprisingly improved its track adhesion significantly from before I started. With the skinny tires though it still moves about all over the place, but doesn't leave the track as much it did before.

These new sponge foam tyre walls should really add some colour to the circuit and reduce damage to the cars.

Pics from the digital thread.

Tomorrow I have the joy of cleaning up an old banking hall before starting work on the largest track I can make over the next few days using all the Sport track I have and the best of my old Classic.

Have also just added a blue GT3 Aston Martin Vantage (£25), a Pikes Peak 205 (£47 inc digi chip and the 6R4/205 1986 Monte Carlo set (<£51) to go with the Audi/S4 set.

Bad news is I have had to steal a chip from the rallycross 6R4 that I don't use much at all as I have used all 10 I had just bought. It's a bit a pain to swap chips about and can't be good for the life of the chips so I try to have one fitted to all my cars.

Not in the picture are about 20 other old pre DPR cars which are packed away until I get a room for scalextric and my rc toys sorted.

Had a few hours spare this morning so put together a track for some friends to play on this week.

I've still got a lot of track left over but not enough time to make any fundamental changes and have avoided bridges.

I have run out of runoff barriers but do have some r2 outer and standard straight curb armco. It's a pita to put on and time consuming! Must buy a few more r3 in and out to finish one end properly!

Which way around does that run? That wall at the end of the straight looks like a car wrecker!

Clockwise.

We'll not be running F1 cars but might get LMP cars out. Super Resistant cars will be used by those who aren't known quantities and by some who are...

There are likely to be the empty boxes and a Marshall at the one end and I have been a touch selective as to where the more tarnished track has been put so for the first few hours it should slow learners down a touch. With the kink there will be an old pillow. It is also a good metre and a half or more to either wall.

Will be using 6 car Base as much as possible but find that it tends to cut out with lots of use so have 4 car one as backup and a few sport ones for extreme emergency. Thinking of getting a few of the old analogue cars out for a laugh but that will depend on work load between now and when I have to pack it away!

Me and some other local racers have taken to "team photos" when we go to national events (which are open to all, there's no qualification speed), here's ours from last weekend in Stoke-on-Trent. We're next (mostly) headed to Wolverhampton next weekend!

Racing at club level or higher is something everyone needs to try. I put it off for years, but am hooked now. The club I race at, Four Lane Black Top recently ran a 24hr race on our new modular track. Brilliant fun, if a tad exhausting by the end.

How do you deal with the inside lane having an advantage over the outside lane (in the example above)?

Everyone races on all lanes, so for our 24hr race, each team had 6x1 hour stints on each lane. On a normal club night, we run 4x3 minute qualifying heats, one in each lane. The better qualifiers then have lane choice for the final.

I was convinced it was speeded up at first, then it must be trick photography, then I realised that's just how fast they go!

If buying stuff on eBay gets you all excited, there's a Scalextric Club swapmeet in Milton Keynes on Sunday 12th February.

Sports Hall 1, Woughton Leisure Centre, MK6 5EJ.

It starts at 10am and there will be many hundreds of cars for sale as well as track, accessories etc. Stuff you didn't even know you needed, but turns out you can't do without.
Thanks a lot, you cost me £100 frown On the plus side though, I now have these... Cheers Gareth thumbup

I think there's been a new record set (with a G7 wing car, I think the same class as in the video) of something like 1.3s on a King track, within the last few months. It's too quick for me, I tried group 12 a few weeks ago (1/32 "scale", 170,000 rpm or so motors theoretically - you never actually get them to top speed because they... explode) and I got a lot of satisfaction out of just getting the car around the track without coming off, but I was a hell of a lot slower than (using the same body - aero works) when I used a car with a motor 1/3rd the speed (and higher geared) that I could drive aggressively.

That looks like a seriously tidy haul from the swapmeet, I think those Chaparrels look amazing if slightly fragile with that wing wink . I've been to Coventry (2015) and Gaydon (last year) but I've never had enough money to properly justify it. I'd love to go with £200 burning a hole in my pocket..

The weekend of April the 1st there is the 24 hours race in Henley-on-Arden. If anyone wants to pop along you'll see some very extreme scale-accurate cars hammering down a 100 foot Mulsanne at 3am, lights blazing and drivers squinting at them from the other side of the sports hall... including myself!

This is my winter test track in the spare room. In the summer it all goes into my garage where the straights get increased by about ten foot. I've never taken any pictures of it, so come spring time I'll get it moved and show it off.

And here are a few of my favourite cars. I mostly collect F1 from the 1970's(boyhood memories and all that), some of these I'm lead to believe are quite rare.
My 1979 grid...

And a couple of my favourites from 1975. I've also got Lauda's Ferrari B3 being restored, Peterson's Lotus72 which could sit alongside as it was still being run, but is technically an earlier year.
I've just ordered Hunt's 1975 Hesketh, and Fitipaldi's McLaren from the same year, but are not made yet.

Funny thing is that none of these are Scalextric! Flyslot and SCX both make lovely detailed cars but the mechanicals are very frail, so mostly for show.

My Chevy has gone off for some welding so I have this set up in the garage right now, about half of it is sport track and the other half is old school. My 6 year old is very impressed
