So at last they are about to release ARC Digital.

About bloody time FFS.

These days the only time i really get a chance to play is when there are 3 or more of us about to do so so have been stuck on the old digital stuff for the last few years. Wireless will make that so much better!
This?

I’ve been out of the game for a while – probably more than 30 years…. but what’s happened to Scalextric recently?

The problem is that I already have more than enough exposure to technology, so I’m not remotely interested in the ARC stuff with an App on my phone or tablet – but obviously I’d like the lane changing ability of Digital as I’m not a total luddite!

I was hoping to find a huge selection of Digital sets for sale now, but they’re still selling the analogue sets? ARC both analogue and digital? Very confusing. One of our site friends Jadlam has what appears to be the only available “old-school” Digital set for sale with various combinations of additional track packs of their own which is great, but where have all the other basic Digital sets gone?

Did I miss the window of opportunity for non-app based lane changing Digital?? Or do I need to look harder?
Cheers!

They're obviously pushing the latest stuff hard for Christmas. There will be "normal" digital sets in future I would think.

Meanwhile eBay is your friend, digital conversion kits are relatively easy to come by and Jadlam would do you one of their custom sets.

If it's not against site rules, I have a lane change, 4-car power base and two throttles I could sell you.

Dont expect to see much more of the original digital.

Analogue - pushing hard. Sets now typically less than £100
ARC - Analogue but with APP compatibility - £120ish
ARC Air - As above but wireless controllers - £200ish
ARC PRO - Digital, APP and wireless controller - £500 for official boxed set, but we are offering various packaged with the ARC Pro base...

The now older digital stuff (4 Car base and 6 car C7042) isn't being pushed at all by Scalextric but its still out there in a few places (us mainly as we have vast stocks!)

Cheers.

Thanks Russy, clears that up! Thought I was missing something, but obviously they're pushing ARC hard instead.

It's the older C7042 type sets I'm after, but looking to buy new boxed - thanks anyway FB.

Will do some more digging. Cheers!

Ok, from memory there was only one set ever released with the C7042. It started life as the C1276 Digital Platinum 6 Car set (2x Gallardos, 2x 911's & 2x R8's.) The following year it was updated to the C1330 and simply replaced the Gallardo's with 12c's.

If you want C7042 you can either source these sets (cant be many around), or buy the C7042 in its own box set (we have these). But I would not expect to see another set with either the 4 or 6 Car Digital powerbases. ARC Pro/One/Air is where they are at now...

Let me know if you want C7042s, we've got quite a few and hundreds of the C7002 throttles.

Any reason you are after this C7042? The thing used to do my head in...

I think your memory is correct. I picked up a Digital Platinum set a few years ago with the C7042. The basic layout wasn't good but as a (big) add on to an existing set it worked well.

Have a go on an ARC pro set if you can, its genuinely really good fun and a big step up from old digital. Even for the wireless controllers alone, makes marshalling so much easier.

Enjoying the new ARC Air 911 RSRs that Santa brought as part of the new set, but they do seem to stick on the 45deg corners - lots of power (so not a brush issue) but wheels are spinning - looks like the clearance is so small the rail is proud and allowing wheels to break traction. Bending the track (to remove camber) seems to work for a bit, but not perfect.

Is this a common problem? Whats the pro solution?

Merry Christmas!

If I remember right the problem is this bulge (in the red circle)

Worth confirming that's the specific problem, but if it is, it's safe to sand it down. If you're worried you'll go through and hit the crown gear on the axle, you can remove the body (2 screws in front of front axle, 1 screw behind rear axle) and pop the axle out while you work.

You sir are a lucky man! We’ve sold an incredible amount of SL5’s this year and I personally think it’s all you ever need. If you have any troubles at all please drop me a message...

Here is the SL5 being tested at Home earlier this year when we received our test ARC PRO base...

Needs another three lane changers to make life interesting, though I guess that's another 50-60 quid.

You could get 1 more on the right hand side and replace the side swipes for another but thats it. Plus like you said it would increase the price a lot...

Several places you could get the curved versions in.

The limitation with Scalextric has always been the limited ability to change lanes/lines. It's a shame that hasn't been overcome yet.

Yea agreed, but from a retail perspective we try to forget corner lane changers existed as we wouldn't be able to source enough nowadays. Plus when they were readily available they were not very reliable and caused us a lot of grief!

Just found this thread, I've had Scalextric for as long as I can remember smile
My first set was a 2nd hand figure of 8 with 2 cars, one was a 911 Turbo that got brush painted Humbrol white by me, the other I can't remember. Just remembered that my model Harrier got painted in the same white too, mainly because it was the only colour I had laugh

I then got a big batch of 2nd hand track, and my mate over the road had a huge load of track too, so we joined forces and built a huge one in his boarded out loft.
I had stuff like the Police Rover, saloons and coupes, he had all the F1 stuff. I seem to remember him getting a Ferrari F1 car of some sort which had tyres you somehow inflate by pinching them? Sadly that car got lost to the wall cavity gap that went around the edge of the loft! Lesson learnt, we then covered it all up. So whoever knocks down that house in the future will find it at the bottom.
He was also the only person I've ever known to own the loop the loop, even Google doesn't seem to have a lot of info on it.
It needed a seriously long straight after it for the cars to slow down before trying to add a corner!
My cousin and another mate had the artic trucks with trailers, they were always my favourite, but they couldn't do banked corners or the loop laugh
I seem to remember my favourite car was a Mobil XR3i, and the white 911!

I've currently got a set in the loft (can't remember which off hand, but its a classic track one), and a load of extra track.
I might have to dig it out and annoy the Mrs biggrin

Edit: Just stuck my head in the loft, turns out it is a Sport track C1080 Rally Sport set with Impreza and Evo.
I got it stupidly cheap at a car boot years ago. I must have bought some convertors too then, because the other track is definitely classic mk2 stuff.

For anyone wondering what the loop was like, it was flimsy and a pain in the arse to set up. It rocked when the cars went round it. He got it for xmas, I don't remember that we bothered using it many times!

Mine have always worked well. Have they been discontinued?
