Here is a view of the track at night from where Race Control were sitting.

I only took a couple of short video from 3/4ths of the way down the Mulsanne straight, where cars are just about at top speed, as unfortunately my phone memory is almost full! There's a guy who goes and films a mini documentary about it every year though which is usually about 40 minutes long and released about a month after the race...

Here's that video. Can you tell I'm not a cinematographer? laugh

Christmas 2018, the Scalextric Christmas.

Dug my set out and introduced my coworkers not he last day of work by setting it up in the boardroom. I bought 2 cheap McLarens from Jadlam so they wouldn't wreck my main cars. They loved it.

Then took it to my folks for Christmas and introduced my 3 year old Nephew, he loved it too.

Ended up spending £80 on two new cars today and now scouring nay for more bargains. Ooooops!

I do like the old meaty looking Scalextric Superslix on the Porsche (and other cars of that vintage). That looks like a nice livery. I need to get one of those one day (my current Scaley Porsche is the Joker's car so I don't want to repaint it...)

I only re-paint worn out liveries smile

This porsche I repainted had the magnet fitting as well. I did an old mk1 Escort also

Hi I had the Porsche, love your upgraded lights, but found it too heavy to be comptetative! So I took my fav Datsun 260z, stripped it out and put the fat rear tires from the Porsche on it, then that flew around my track nothing could touch it. Also the Martini Brabham was another fav of mine.
Unfortunately all sold on now.....

I’ve just got back into the world of scalextric after about 18 years away, my son got a small battery carrera Spider-Man set for Christmas and he loves it so I took it as an excuse to buy *him* a big set up, few weeks looking on the good old bay of e and I got this....

Set it up today and it’s great fun!!! We both seem to spend more time fetching the cars from other side of the room then actually racing around the track but that’s part of the fun isn’t it

But I have a few questions,
1) the track seems to have a few pieces with different connections on the end so am I right in guessing this is a mix of digital and normal track? Or have I got some none scalextric brand track( can’t say it bothers me enough to look for a brand name on it)

2) The tyres loose grip over time as the two Mercedes cars in the kit can spin the rear wheels quite easy and they do seem to be flying off the track and sliding round corners on only part throttle

3) are the cars in the pictures worth anything? They were advertised as brand new and the one I looked at looks mint with no marks so I’m inclined believe that

Thanks in advance

You've got a mix of classic and sport track. Hopefully you've got the adaptor, too.

What he said.

Be warned. New style guides are too long for classic track and will need modifications to be able to use it.

I have an adaptor piece so I should be ok there. I might buy a few more as I have a lot of track and I don’t want to get caught out halfway through a big layout.

R.E. the slots being to big, can you modify them or am I better off upgrading the track to the sport track as I go along?

IIRC it is that the new guides are longer than before and so go further down into the groove and so catch on the small bits of plastic at the bottom of those.

As for how you deal wit it i have heard of some filing down the guides so that there is no issue.

Personally i have adapters for when i want to put an old bit of track in but have to remember that i will not be able to use some of my cars (frustrating!) it is even more annoying as i have a few nice old bits like the full set of flashing light chicanes and a good few 100m worth of c160 straights and many c153 curves that i have to keep in the boxes as i do not wish to mass with my cars.

I am shortly about to realize the dream of a large room just for my scalextric and toys so am playing with the idea of a building a track with plenty of digital in it so i can have 2 layouts (the GP track and the Historic track) so i can use the fun bits on the latter and only use that section of track with the appropriate cars, of which i have a few....

Oh dear, it's a oneway street from here. My nephew and I setup my old track, Ninco, classic and new Scalextric and bought a few cars. Now have 250ft circuit and went from 29 cars to over 180 so far...

WD40 on the tyres works well for grip, seems crazy but it's true. Also the tyres on old cars get hard and therefore less grippy.

You'll be going to swap-meets next hehe

Wow, that's some collection ! I was "feeling guilty" about a couple of dozen cars but I feel much better now smile

To the question about old/new track, I was in the same position. I bought the adapter sections but to be honest I use more of the modern stuff. IMO the modern cars are easier to drive plus there are some low detail but cheaper, more robust models about and that's better for when folks call round and "let's have a go".

Especially if having a go comes after a few glasses....

Thanks for the replies guys!! I have a saved searches for scalextric within 25miles of my address on eBay so I’m quietly getting the bug. I will try the wd40 on the tyres and see if that helps and I’ll slowly plod away at changing the track over to the newer stuff. I have the itch to set it up again tonight and try and make it as long as possible (great plan untill I have to take it all down again a few hours later)

I still have a load of surplus. Track, cars, accessories etc. Could split some out if it helps anyone.

I use WD40 to clean my track and it works wonders as odd as that sounds. It adds grip to the track and cleans it well to.

It is indeed a slippery slope once the bug takes hold. Knocking on the door of 400 cars now.

I set up nearly everything I have got last night, my lad loved it but it needs some cleaning on the connections, the same few corners would always cause the cars to stop and you could see some arching in the connection, I need some more tight corners so I can create an infield section

Some highlights were charger corner and ironing board bridge

And scooter curve and washing basket corner

And has anyone got an idea of how much these are worth
