'O' Gauge Model of Heaton Lodge Junction
Discussion
Hugely impressed! A lot of skill and determination going into this, and I loved the nostalgic photos too. I'm a little bit older I'd guess, and have lots of memories of trains backed by my late father's photographs. (My main claim to fame is that I "drove " Union of South Africa for a couple of hundred yards at St. Rollox engine shed in Glasgow.) Good luck - I'll keep watching progress.
Rich B - the grass is static grass which is basically coloured fibres loaded into a static grass 'gun' and projected onto glue covered terrain.
I use a variety of different coloured fibres from companies like Mini-Natur and Noch. I mix them and layer them on to get the different effects of a winter grass.

While I'm waiting for the Junction to return from the chaps who insert the 'cassettes' (with the track on) into the frames I've been trying to replicate a storm water culvert which is located on the embankment of the junction.
Here is the real thing and my model of it..
I've used a combination of varnish and silicone sealent to try and get the white water effect. I'll let you be the judge of the result..
I'm not 100% with it to be honest but I think its as good as it gets

For a kids play set it'd be ace....for (a very optimistic) £700.Bluedot said:

£7k ? Seriously.
It could almost be one of those trolls that went on the top of pencils...

Coming along nicely Simon, can't wait to see it.
(Went through Heaton Lodge junction on Monday... )
I've been through it at least once a day for the past eight days, I'm sick of the bloody sight of the damn place. Yet I keep coming back to this thread to check on progress. It must be good (Went through Heaton Lodge junction on Monday... )
I suppose the question is when does a train set become a model railway. Anyone I know is banned from calling Heaton Lodge a train set. £7k is a bit optimistic I think..
Anyway...
the junction itself is now mounted in the frames as you can see. I'm now over the next month going to add the scenery including the banks obviously, water culvert, some relay boxes and a load of other stuff..

So looking at that image you clearly have to cut down the frame's ribs/formers (or whatever you describe them as). How do you prevent saw dust (again excuse the course description) getting all over the work you've already done? Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
