A cynical person might say it was a marketing ploy by the knock off company.

Ah yeah sorry I wasn't clear - I mean why are some Wnrs whilst some are Plan? Is Wnrs a Lepin product, and Plan a knock off of the Lepin set?
Ah I get what you mean now.

I think....
The sets were called star wnrs until Lego Group started legal proceedings against Lepin.
Lepin changed to Star Plan very shortly after.
Must be the way round copyright in china, just change the name and hey presto different product = no lawsuit!!
If only in China. According to the (recently deleted) "Sale or Return nightmare" tread, a dealer can sell your car and won't have to give you any money as long as they quickly fold the company and start a new one. New name and hey presto = no lawsuit. :-)

So, the UCS (Lepin obviously) Imperial Star Destroyer - having an absolute nightmare with it, the hull sections are a PITA to fit to the structure, the magnets seem to be extremely strong and trying to get them to hold with enough time to clip in the pieces down the sides is a nightmare. Every time I try it falls part, pulls the magnets lose etc, it's very fragile, I'm very tempted to Kragle it to be honest (really don't want to though). Does anyone have any thoughts, has anyone built this, any ideas? I was close to "flight testing" the whole thing across the room last night! biglaugh

If you look at the YouTube reviews of the star destroyer, the points you raise are how the set is and why I'm skipping it in favour of the super star destroyer.

Super glue / Kraggle may be your best option

Ah OK, thank you, I'll have a look at those videos then and see if they help, I already have the SSD (genuine Lego), this was to just increase my UCS collection. Thanks for the steer. beer

Anyone built the Xingbao Ford GT model?

I was quite impressed by the pics of it that I've seen, and I figured for £23-ish I'd be willing to take a punt on the brick quality.

So, I ended up having to Kragle the Hull Panels and mounting points of the Lepin Star Destroyer, it was just to delicate without doing so, apparently the original Lego model is quite fragile too, just that Lepin and its slightly less uniform clutch of pieces probably made it worse.

Anyway, it's all finished and I must say is without a doubt the most impressive looking set I own, it's so big and intimidating, I reckon it's bigger and heavier than the SSD (not as long, but much wider and bulkier). It's now my favourite display piece by far!

Now, what to get next? I'd like either the UCS Tantive IV, or the MOC'd Venator Class UCS.

I haven't built it personally, but I know someone that has built the GT, Bugatti, and Lamborghini. He was very impressed and said hey are worth getting. He also built the Assasain that they ripped off from Crowkillers, he said that was awful.

Who did you order the Star Destroyer from Ash? I ordered from my usual Aliexpress suppliers but they then mailed me to say they couldn't deliver because of the magnets!??

There's a guy known as 'Jeremy' (hkwopczk@gmail.com) can supply sets a little cheaper than Aliexpress. I think he's just a dude with a paypal and a want to earn a little extra cash (so not an 'official' reseller or anything) but he's supposed to be a whizz with postage and customs. He's also supposed to be good for supplying Lepin over the other knock-off kits.

Have a look on Reddit for feedback on him - he's listed as a supplier on the top sticky and has any number of positive feedback. Better even than the stores on Aliexpress!

Hi Stig, for the ISD I was fortunate to have a mate that was in China for a few days (he's an airline pilot) so he got it for me while in Shanghai, it was also way cheaper than Aliexpress at $84 (USD), whereas Aliexpress for me it's $144. I'm gld he was able to do that as I'd read on here about the magnet and customs issues (may have been a previous post from you).

If you do get one, be aware of it's fragility (I think the Lego one is also fragile). Hope you manage to get one, it is a really impressive sight when built.

Thanks Ash. May have to find an alternative to Aliexpress then - but a flight to China probably defies the saving somewhat wink

laugh, yeah, you'd be better off forking out for a 2nd Lego version off E-Bay, incidentally at the Star Wars convention in Orlando this year, there was some scammer asking $6k for a sealed lego one! Bloody ridiculous price!

As it happens - I have a spare as I ended ordering two from different suppliers as I had given up chasing the original Alixpress supplier, who them delivered within days of the other turning up!

Was going to keep the pair, but would consider an offer. Ping me a PM.
