That ESC programming card worked on both my 3s arrmas and the infraction with no bother... their all a couple of years old though so maybe they have changed the software to block it? - dunno.

Regarding the runtime on the 3s - i fitted a dusty motors cover to my 3s typhon and it created a heat build up which caused my esc to thermal as it couldn't pull enough cool air in.... have you tried running the vorteks without it?
Good shout thumbup

You know what I haven’t, I have only used it a couple of times. Will try running without it, didn’t actually consider this could be a cause as I assumed it being mesh it would be fine.

RPM arms fitted to the Vorteks. Having proper tools was a lifesaver on these two particular screws, also saves on the worry of rounding the hex’s.

I'm new to crawlers...

Two years ago I bought a 1/24 for the boy to use indoors which we fitted a FPV setup to but recently he's taken to going for walks with it and setting himself little challenges...

It's had some mods (loads of wheel weight and oil shocks) and for its size was very good but the size is quite limiting outdoors...

I seriously considered a trx4M but though it still may be a bit limiting...

So.... I bought an Axial capra UTB18 last week based on lots of good reviews.... its proving to be VERY capable!

It has some flex!

Some beadlocks and some much more aggressive tyres arrived today.... brass portals and overdrive gears for the front are en route from the USA

Chunky tyres and beadlocks arrived.... I also treated it to a camo wrap and detailed the fuel cell...and the obligatory test drive of course

Crawlers are new to me - the amount you can spend on wheels and tyres is certainly eye opening!!

These tyres were £60!! - makes running an infraction look cheap!

Max6 ESCs installed in the Infraction and XRT.

Will take em both for a rip this weekend, time permitting.

All this crawler talk... Must get my Wraith out again sometime, it's been laid up for too many years.

IIRC, one (major) reason it's been ignored was I was having trouble with the steering servo. I think it had a mind of its own at times. No trouble with the throttle though. Any guesses as to why the steering would throw itself about? Maybe controller or receiver issues rather than the servo itself?

If it’s a high power servo, pretty much a must for the Wraith, has it got a BEC? This takes the servo power directly from the battery, not via the esc.

At a guess, the ESC will have a BEC that powers the receiver and servos.

Best bet is going to be to test the problematic servo with another set of radio gear. And test a known good servo, with the radio gear that is used with the Wraith.

It could be a power related issue, so worth testing on another ESC / BEC.

Was looking back at my build thread on rccrawler and it seems the poor thing has been on the shelf for 8 years! paperbag

But it seems I did fit a Castle BEC for the chunky servo, maybe I need to up the voltage a bit... I've forgotten how to do all this stuff over the interval.
This evening's job, as a starter, is to go down the garage and see if the batteries will take a charge!

Did it get wet?.... does it "flutter" when powered?

The cheapest and best way is just to buy a servo tester from ebay if you haven't got any other rc kit to test it with...

Just found out my very old Ripmax Interceptor 650 boat from many moons ago, everything looks intact. Needs a clean up from years of sitting in a loft - will do that and post up a pic. smile

I remember it being fun to use, though it wasn't ultra fast, not by modern standards anyway.

It will have gotten wet when running, but was sold as waterproof (and was not cheap!). On the old thread, I mention possible overheating, so I guess I'll have a look at that first. Again, IIRC, it works perfectly for the first few minutes each run.

I have 4 NiMH sticks; 2 are showing 7.1-7.2v, the other two are dead.
My charger has no LED where I seem to remember it should have one lit up red/green when charging (or if a dead battery plugged in). It's showing voltage across the battery plug, so it's working but I'm not sure I trust it. I think I'll be ordering a new charger and maybe 2 new sticks (and they'll be Overlander ones, as that's the make of the 2 sticks that appear to have held at least some charge over the last 8 years!)

Dug out my old Tamiya MantaRay from it's duffle bag as well, in case there was anything useful in there. Looks like during its time in the shed, something mousey might have been living in there - lots of nice insulating leaves, a corner chewed out of the polystyrene box for the Tx... and it might have died in there, too. There's some sort of... brown juice... in the bottom of the bits bag. I'll have a proper look at that outdoors, with gloves on, tomorrow. Sadly, the Tx is likely dead too, as it seems I left 8 Duracells in there and they have failed to Not Leak. Badly. And even twist themselves up in a couple of cases.

IIRC, my new(er) Tx for the Wraith can support different programmes for different cars, so it might be cheaper/easier to get an Rx that matches it for the Manta.

The Interceptor that I've dug out..

Would it silly to throw money at it? Definitely, without a doubt.

Would it be fun, though? Ermm... probably.

They don't make 'em like they used to wink

Dug them out, cleaned up the muck, then ground the contacts back... new set of batteries, no probs!
There is just enough charge in one of the battery sticks to plug into the old car and get a brief response to the controls smile

Waiting on a new charger and 2 new sticks, now.

I'm thinking about selling the Manta Ray, but they only seem to go for £80-90 and I'm still quite nostalgic about it - even if it is nearly a decade between runs! But I'm not sure I would ever take it out to play over the Wraith, so maybe I will sell it.

The dog is thinking that you need to hurry up and build it so (s)he can bark at it and chase it around.

That’ll be loads of fun when it’s done. It probably doesn’t come with ball bearings, so a cheap kit of those to put in when you build it is solid first upgrade.

I bought this WPL E-1 tracked transporter last year and have been waiting for some snow so I can test it in a realistic environment. Snow finally arrived a few days ago and here is the result of my testing:
