Moebius Models have announced a 1/144 kit of one of the 'holy grails' of SF modelling - the Discovery from 2001:a space odyssey. Exact launch date is uncertain, but I think I need to start saving

and i am tempted by their Orion plane from 2001but always stop at the last minute for some reason.

I've got to admit i am tempted, I have made the captain cardboard monolith and man, which is fantastic quality, but I have not got that here, and am tempted by their 'pod' but am lacking the time ond skills of some here (yes I would love to see what Eric Mc could do with that).

I'd love to have a go but price tags over £50 for a model make my knees go a bit wobbly.

I expect even the Moebius kit will be around £100.

Culttvman now have this available as a pre-order, $140 ish when available,. So I seem to have placed an early order- this was my dream model to make when i was a kid, only 35 years late.

Hopefully someone in the UK will stock it - postage from the US is very expensive even before you hit import duty

It looks like "Timeless Hobbies" intends to import it into the UK. I reckon it will cost at least £100.00.

Mobius are now selling the 2001 discovery, pre-orders were discounted so I ordered one afew months back. However i seem to have gotten a bit carried away I seem to have also ordered the lighting kit, the pod bay etched detail kit, flight deck detail kit and now also the extras kit with the scale pod, clear engine exhaust kit and some other bits which have just gone into production to suit the kit.
It will be interesting as its many years since I did a kit, I'm hoping not to let myself down as i watch some of the builds here with awe!
