Moulding with Clear Resin

Hi,
I'm carrying this over from the Classic Car section:

I'm wanting to recreate the clear lens/bubble from the top of the gear knob off my classic, it's a rare item and difficult to replace.
The lens has a crack in it which spoils it, I've managed to remove it in one piece and the advice from others - this should me fairly easy to recreate in clear resin from a mould.

Any tips on material & suppliers, tutorials, videos and advice would be very welcome..

I bought some silicon moulding rubber off eBay last year, that's quite easy to use to make the mould from. I haven't looked at making anything from clear resin, but a local firm does sell the stuff to do it. One concerning thing was that some of the items they have on display in their offices are noticeably yellowing.

What size and thickness is the cap/dome and do you know what sort of material you are going to use?

Liquid resins might be easier to use but most will generate heat while curing, leading to possible cracking and discolouration.
Acrylic sheet will probably give a better finish but needs a controlled heat and will take longer to do it properly.
