After years commenting on other people's models is only fair that I post evidence of my own skill.

Caveat - this was made c 1981and has spent the last three decades in my mum's garage. Tools used - a paintbrush.

Always nice to see an old model built up. Presumably the ancient Revell version? Camo finish looks pretty good for hand painted - can't see any brush marks.

Kits, materials, techniques and access to advice have improved a lot in 30 odd years, plus people tend to get more patient. FWIW, based on that I'd say you have the makings of a very good modeller.

ETA: A quick look at Scalemates shows that Revell released a much later (2000's) tooling of this aircraft, based on Hasegawa moulds (1:32?) Even has the same markings. Why not build it again and compare results after 36 years?

Actually might be 1:32 come to think of it! Paint came in little Humbrol tins.

I avoid Humbrol like the plague these days. If you get Vallejo Model Colour acrylics and some retarder medium/thinners, you can get excellent results with a decent flat brush, especially over Tamiya fine surface primer aerosol. My son has got some really nice results using that method recently. Acrylics are much easier to clean up too.

Second the Dr's view on Humbrol paints. I haven't used them in years.

My paints of choice these days are Xtracrylix for authentic camouflages and Tamiya for general colours.

I have been using Alclad for metallics - which are great - but recently started using Valejo metallics which are almost as good but less smelly and a bit more robust.
