Anyhow, I fancy buying some nostalgia, I was going to get a rerelease Optima but the CAT XLS is much cheaper, one thing that put me off the Optima is the amount of preassembly...how much does the CAT have?
Short of the 2 thrust races in the diffs which now come as a pressed carrier already containing the balls over the old plastic cage and loose balls - nothing. They are completely knocked down into parts in bags that you work through in order. The box might seem small but is crammed full, once I'd opened mine I couldn't close it! I opted for the upgrade chrome rims and pro diff set, all from Modelsport as they have really good deals going on them.

It's here! Squeeee! 13 years old again biggrin

Aside from the 'pron' pages displaying the cars themselves, there are many, many pages on technical stuff that I had forgotten about - it really was an informative magazine. Oh, and there are tanks too - I didn't remember that either!

I'm really fortunate to have found this copy - it's almost immaculate, you could have picked it up from Beatties yesterday...

I'll scan some pages and post them up - who does photo hosting now that Photobucket won't do it anymore?

There are some here:

Turns out I had the 1984 version. I remember I lent it to a pal of mine who was in hospital, never gave it back.

Now I’m trawling EBay for one; damn this forum.

Another Tamiya nut here.

I have about 26 cars in my collection and about 18 of those are Tamiya's

Probably 3/4 of them are still at restoration stage though.

My current project is my first ever RC. A Boomerang that i had (and raced) at around 88/89.

I still race (mainly non tamiya stuff) at the mo.

I got my 6 Y/O daughter a re-re grasshopper which she also races and she has really gotten hooked on the hobby.

That's the book I had as a kid, always dreamed of getting a Frog, but my parents and I could never stretch to one. I finally got a Tamiya RC car about 15 years ago when I bought a Madbull. Great fun, based on the Grasshopper/Hornet Chassis I think, but with Monster Beetle type wheels which made it an ideal grassy garden bit of fun. Eventually gave it to my petrolhead crazy 7 year old niece.

Ive got masses of Tamiya stuff, all the original not re re stuff. 4 hilux, 2 blazers,1 bruiser, 6RRs, 4 SS, 2 superchamps, 3 rangers, 2 pajeros, 2 audis, 2 asconas, 3 frogs, 2hornets, 1 grasshopper, 4 brats, 2 sand rovers, 3 holiday buggies, 4WW, (1 SWB), a Countach, the Sidecar, a 7up Jordan, 2 XR311s, Merc DTM, 3 Hotshots, (2 boxart), a supershot, 2 lancias, 2 Willys wheelers, a WW2 regular and a chrome, an Avante, BMW f2, a Porsche 934, 2 6wheel Tyrells and 2 959s.
A few are NIB or near NIB, some built "shelfqueens",but most are built and used.

I also have a new built Jeep Wrangler, Kyosho optima, a progress, 2 Kyosho motorbikes, 3 rc10s, as well as 2 and a half Mardave Marauders!
I'm sure ive forgotten some!

I used to buy and sell quite a lot, but in the last few years I've just kept what I had and done a few jobs on them.

Against the modern stuff, you realise how awful they were performance wise, but they're cool, often well over engineered, and great to own and display. Originally destined just for my office, they are in office, playroom, even two minters in the front room, an loads in the loft! I also have loads of the Tamiya Videos that they used to play in the shops, would watch them four hours as a kid! You used to be able to buy them on ebay, (on DVD) but sure they are on youtube too!! Takes me right back to the 80s!
