This is one I completed late last year; Eduard's 1:48 Lysander (originally a Gavia kit). I added a lot of scratchbuilt detail, as well as photo-etch and resin:

And here it is with my old 1:72 Matchbox Lysander from 197x . Both models are favourites:

It's in this month's edition of Scale Aviation Modeller International magazine:

The full build is featured over 9 pages. Unfortunately I can't post build threads on here for review models.

Wow. That is amazing. Fantastic.

Which magazine is that featured in?

Sorry, just saw the note about the magazine. I’ll pick up a copy.

My local "Charity" Shop recently had one of the Gavia kits for sale for £20. Underneath was the original model shop price sticker......£18.00! mad
They were also selling oldish Airfix Series 1 kits for £10.

There's no way I'd pay £20 for the Gavia version (or even £18). I'm pretty sure Eduard corrected the moulds for this version (wing strut holes are incorrectly located), plus there's resin and photo-etch in the Profipack.

Six pieces - one scratchbuilt from acetate. Took some aligning!

I always dip canopy parts in Klear (or spray with gloss clear); it fills any micro cracks / bloom and makes them more transparent.

Outstanding indeed. 2 questions:
It seems the canopy frame is painted both on the inside and the outside? Is that so? If yes, how do you mask?
Do you apply Klear after all the paintwork has been done? I read somewhere someone was applying Klear prior to painting, but I suspect that layer would be damaged by the masking tape, and maybe paint adhesion on Klear would be less good?

Thanks! The inner frames of the canopy extremities (ie the visible parts) were masked and painted from the inside; a simple job with Tamiya tape. I tried painting the entire inner canopy frames by masking and painting, but the thickness of the plastic gave an unsightly parallax effect where the outer lines appeared to have a border all around them that shifted depending on viewing angle. I polished back and reverted to only painting the outer ones.

You dip the parts in Klear and allow to cure for several days, then mask, paint, weather and matt coat. Adhesion of Klear on plastic and paint on Klear isn't an issue - Tamiya tape is fairly low-tack, and so long as the Klear hasn't got grease on it, acrylic sticks to it fine.

You can't really apply Klear after paint, becasue the parts would probably be on the model and blended to the fusealge. You'd also have to mask twice in order to apply a final matt coat.

Good tips. I'll be in England next week, and I'll buy myself a bottle of Klear then.

Sorry to tell you but Klear was discontinued as a product in the UK quite a few years ago now. Most of us modellers have been using up our hoarded bottles of the stuff.

There are a few alternatives these days.

It's no longer available in it's original form. Some folks say the new formula is just as good, some don't.

When I run out, I'll probably worth get a bottle of new old stock from EBay, there's one on at the moment for £25 which seems pretty reasonable.

Nothing really, it’s in a case with some other models in my office.

Devil's advocate - what does a model like that cost when purchased from someone as good as you???

How long is a piece of string. I would value a model of that standard easily in the hundreds, if not touching £1,000.

I have no idea at all. Some models built to a high standard on EBay, but 'straight from the box' seem to go for a lot of money. Seems to depend on the subject though.
