Simply stunning. Beautiful Lysander!
Thanks!

So when's the new-tool Airfix version in 1:72 coming out (or Walrus wink ) ?

I'm building the Dambusters Lancaster at the moment, but I much prefer the fabric covered stuff from you guys (at least in 1:72). The Wellington is definitely on the list.

Beautiful model - what happens to it now?
Thanks!

Nothing really, it’s in a case with some other models in my office.
Devil's advocate - what does a model like that cost when purchased from someone as good as you???
I have no idea at all. Some models built to a high standard on EBay, but 'straight from the box' seem to go for a lot of money. Seems to depend on the subject though.
I think the “straight from the box” models are by builders trying to make a bit of cash from their hobby. There’s no point spending fortunes on resin and P.E the average buyer isn’t going to appreciate.
I had a look on EBay and found this.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Supermarine-Spitfire-Vb...
This appears to me to be a reasonably well made model from a basic kit, but nothing beyond what an average modeller like I could achieve. (No real shading, basic chipping, etc). I suppose the telling fact is that no one has bid on it....

On this evidence I would conclude.
1.there is only a very small market for finished models.
2.the Lysander would probably be worth £500-£1000.
3.as usual I’ve probably got points 1&2 wrong.

I doubt the Lysander is worth £500 let alone £1000. I suppose a commission build from a professional could be more considering the hours needed, but how many people would want one?

One of the highest sold prices for a built 1:48 model on EBay currently is this Starfighter:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-48-F-104G-F-104-Starf...

Very nice model, no doubt sold at a signifiant loss when the hours taken to build are considered.

For me it's not about value of the finished item, it's about the simple enjoyment of building something to the best standard I can. It doesn't matter if it's plastic, metal, paper, 3D printed, or building a classic car or even my house. I'm no businessman, I just like making things!

You missed my disclaimer. I thought I’d be wrong.

I do like the star fighter though.

Like any market - they are worth what people are willing to pay. It's best to leave money out of the equation when it comes to hobbies. Once something becomes monetised, it starts losing its attraction as something to do to relax.

I put most of mine on fleabay once built. Put then on for the cost of the kit and any AM bits. If it sells good if not it stays.

All bar one sold. It was an academy sheridan with friul tracks and reactive armour.

Stopped now as i live in France and postage is steep making it unlikely i will sell any.

When my french improves i will try to sell over here

Good tips. I'll be in England next week, and I'll buy myself a bottle of Klear then.
It's no longer available in it's original form. Some folks say the new formula is just as good, some don't.

When I run out, I'll probably worth get a bottle of new old stock from EBay, there's one on at the moment for £25 which seems pretty reasonable.
Just got some original Johnson's Klear off EBay for £15 delivered. I use it for so many modelling related things (canopy refinement, decal setting solution, paint sealing etc) that I definitely wouldn't risk any of the new formula versions. I hope it's genuine!

I just bought some of the original stuff. I've never used it before. (Last time I did anything like this "MicroGloss" was the pre decal finish of choice.)

I'm sure you'll get on with it OK - pretty foolproof to use.

For anyone interested, Hannants are saying that some Eduard kits and sets are being discontinued - not sure if it is just Hannants, or Eduard themselves. Anyway they have their Profipack 1:48 Lysander III set at £32:30. I don't think this is any sort of reduction though.

Not unusual for Eduard (or other manufacturers) to discontinue stuff. I’ve had problems getting photo-etch for certain kits in the past (including the Lysander in fact).
