Model Railway Wanton Vandalism.. :(
Discussion
The thing is chaps, it's not just about money (and yes, I've just given a small amount), it's about the time people have put into constructing these models. Even if you gave someone £10,000 they would need several years to rebuild. I noticed the BBC article focused on the value of one of the locomotives but to me, at least, it should focus on the the time someone has put into creating their life work. Very sad...

It’s not “ill-informed rubbish” it’s just a different opinion to yours. "This sort of thing" has always, and will always, happen and assuming it is because no-one is legally beating the shidt out of kids is just rubbish.

No, one is an opinion the other is an historical study to back up or refute a statement.

You cannot say that because you do not know if Daimler V8 has also studied in order to come up with his opinion. Anyway, I'll not devalue the thread by descending into a typical Pistonheads argument. This sort of behaviour is simply scaled up behaviour of the litter bug. They don't care about leaving a trail of mess for others to deal with, they care even less about their bad behaviour when confronted (speaking from experience) they have been dragged rather than bought up.
There really is no benefit to them being in society, except to serve as an example of how not to exist.
Society is too soft on their type too, and they know they'll go largely unchallenged.

Sorry - can we restrict the "barbarian" approach to the "News Forum" edition of this story. Far more useful on this thread is discussion and suggestions in respect of the model owners recovering their situation.
I am pretty sure there will be insurance to cover this. If there isn't, I'd be gobsmacked.

Plenty of idea - as I actively assist in organising model shows for my club and am well aware of what's involved in organising such events.
Insurance is pretty crucial - as is adequate security.
Insurance is of zero use to someone who invested hundreds - maybe thousands - of hours into relatively cheap kits, or the materials required to build a high quality model railway. The value massively outweighs the monetary costInsurance is pretty crucial - as is adequate security.

How are you bearing up since your recent loss Eric? Insurance is pretty crucial - as is adequate security.
