For some reason while gardening this PM, I was meditating on general TV presenters who appeared to be almost omnipresent, and then just vanish. Not necessarily massive stars, just people that seemed to be on the rota of general presenters back along.

What happens to them?

Where do they go?

Examples:

Mark Lamarr

And the most random name that popped in to my head:

Irish ginger ubiquity Shauna Lowry; 20 years ago she was everywhere.

Any more nominations for random presenter vanishing?

Do we think aliens are taking them to build some kind of primetime TV homage on Mars?

A quick google and the first thing to pop up...
Mark Lamarr was arrested on September 1, 2018, and was charged with assault and false imprisonment. He was due to appear in court on October 1, 2018, but last night the CPS dropped his case. A spokesman said: “We concluded that there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.”

In many cases old age and illness will be the cause, not seen James Bolam in anything for a while,

I was going to say the same about Richard Wilson, but there he is, one of the few white actors
in the BBC's ethnical top heavy Midsummer Night's Dream on the box tonight.

Oddly enough I wondered what happened to Andi Peters then saw home on some QVC type channel selling kitchen utensils.

Social media means that even if there's a forgotten celeb they probably still have a substantial following.

It's a bit odd; it's like you see a random old-ish car and realise they have all vanished.

Suddenly you realise that without some sort of scandal, some ubiquitous celeb has just faded out of view.

A person becomes popular so the tv company signs them to a contract, flogs them to death by putting them in every show they can to get their money's worth.
The public become sick of seeing them, their contract reaches the end and they slip away to obscurity.....only to resurface for the yearly panto in some provincial town

Peters does the ITV morning ring in to win a gazillion quid. I know because I switchvtobBBC when he comes on.

I like to play the "who did they stereotype replacement game"

Joe Lycett replaces Julian Clary.

I love reading the Wikipedia entries for people like this, because they damn with faint praise, by dispassionately listing people's jobs as they just fade away to nothing.

Just yesterday I walked into the kitchen and said to myself ‘he’s a thrifty 50’s binman’ and thought I wonder what happened to Mark Lamarr laugh

Shooting stars has been in my head since the baked potato song.

He received an apology from the CPS last month for those charges which were apparently "authorised in error".

Remember Tony Slattery, he was everywhere years ago.

Yeah, usually found on Good Morning Britain running their competitions, appeared on celeb Masterchef a few years back too.
