Bit of an odd start - seems the Cairngorms have already had snow.

Storm Alex is nudging me to create the thread now - nasty tight storm which is centered around the Channel Islands.

Wet and windy weekend for all - copious rainfall expected.

Longer term, some high pressure could pop up - with a northerly wind. Frost-tastic.

I have a hunch this season will be cooler than usual.

Very timely arrival of the thread!

These last couple of days have been very suddenly cold and frosty feeling, with a rapid plunge in temperature, and as you say Scotland has snow, and several ski resorts in the Alps have already had pretty major snowfall.

All of this seems very early, and it left me thinking "This winter is going to be cold"

Always good to see the Winter thread start!

Very wet in north Essex today, and more rain forecast for overnight.

IN. After the utter washout of last winter I'll take anything this winter. Repeat of 2018 please.

The wind is moving in a strange way today. We normally get the rain hitting the back of the house, and today it's the front of the house. Bloody windy too!

I’m in the Scotland Amber area.

Panic bought some toilet roll in Costco tonight. Hopefully the 45 rolls should see us through the storm.

Much nicer and cooler in here. smile

My prediction, with absolutely no science behind it, is for an Atlantic influenced mild wet and windy one.

Last day of Agency work meant walking in lashing rain through a soaked Watford Junction rail station, with added excitement of a tree on the line near Wembley thanks to Storm Alex (this one's named by the French apparently rolleyes ) Due to be a washout all of Saturday before clearing by Sunday. Back home in North London with heavy rain...

I think this winter will be super bad for very windy weather, we have had very warm sea temps down here in the CI.

This time last year our roads were closed due to an early winter storm , ice brought power lines down etc , yet here we are basking in 20+ sunshine . It'll all change soon and we're predicted more than than our average 1.98 mtrs of snow this winter . Can't wait rolleyeslaugh

For whatever tempest, gale, storm, white-out or flood that will occur over the next few months, I blame Puggit.

No fretting over winter tyre fitting timing on wife’s Tiguan this year - never got around to taking them off from last winter.
