How much do stairs cost?

A random question for a Wednesday morning, I know!

I'm looking at a house for sale. It's on a hill and it's three stories, you enter on the middle floor (the hill slopes away from the front of the house) and there are stairs up to the top floor but not down to the lower ground floor. To access those, you have to go out of the house, down the slope to the back and back in, which is bonkers. I know that a neighbour with what looks to be a pretty much identical house has added stairs through, so I'm pretty sure that logistically it can be done (and the layout seems to back that up). I just have no idea what this sort of thing costs.

Appreciate of course that it's a 'piece of string' question, but any idea on ball park? Is it a £1,000 job (unlikely!)? £5,000? £50,000? I have no clue.

a set of internal stairs a couple of years ago in stone cost £45k
reduced to £38k when they swapped the stone guarding and handrails for steel.

In my mind (but with zero knowledge) I'm thinking £5K. Sounds like I wouldn't be miles out.

Flat pack softwood stairs are around £250 a flight as a minimum price. They get more expensive if you want turns out better materials.
Fitting plus knocking a hole in the floor will add to that significantly.

Interesting, thanks. Any ideas on fitting? (Just very roughly, I do appreciate there are plenty of variables).

I reckon that would do it. I got a quote for around £4k ish for "moving" some stairs in a Victorian terrace we had as a rental (would have made the upstairs a million times better if they had been a different way round). Just be mindful of all the crap that can be in the way (cables, pipes etc.) and all the making good.

Didn't go for it in the end (rental) but would have done if it had been my house.

As I read that I thought £1700 was a lot of money for a hole and some ladders.

I have had a new set of stairs to my cellar a few years ago, was about a grand as I recall including parts etc.
