What's the deal with Tamiya Catalogues and their high prices?

I stumbled across their twitter page last night and saw some great new products (I've been out of scale models for years)... that led me to want to order a 2021 catalogue that I could enjoy reading in the evenings and maybe pick something to buy.

I checked on ebay and prices start from around £17 !!

Then I found this lol: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265192089577?hash=item3...

So school me:

  1. Are Tamiya Catalogs more than just catalogs, they are considered very collctable, thus a premium?
  2. Is there any better alternative to browsing their online catalogue? (eg. Tamiya Japan?) : https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/archive.ht...

Thanks smile

I really like their catalogues and have everyone since 1972!

However… they will only be as up to date as the publishing date which is usually at the beginning of the year. To really keep up with what’s going on hit the forums, like Britmodeller, TamiyaClub and F1M, or watch TamiyaBlog which seems to get all the news first.

For me there used to be nothing better than poring over the latest issue hence the collection.

Thanks for the suggesstions.

Hmmm, well I just discovered that "tamiya base" site and spent more time than I should have looking at the RC box art archives hehe

Guess I'll pick up a catalogue then.
