Getting back into RC aircraft

Great bump Kim. Hope all is good with you and everyone else on this thread.
I do apologise I’ve not had time to update lately.
So we got Spitfire night done, right on the last evening it was possible.

Just one flight. So hard and stressful . It’s a model I built 30 years ago, so it has place in my heart. The camouflage scheme makes it so hard to see accurately.
But as a model they fly really well - very forgiving and predictable.

I had a bit of a rough landing with the Acro Wot last day of season. The wind was blowing south westward, always a difficult approach on the ridge we fly.
I’ve said before how fast the Acro Wot arrives, yet to slow it down. It’s a knife edge approaching stall. It did stall again.
Cracked the under carriage.
So. Carbon Fibre it is!

I think all of the WOTs float on a bit.
I've got a WOT4XL powered by a 17cc petrol engine, which is a git to land smoothly unless you're heading straight into a breeze. One of the strips I fly from slopes a bit and unless you get it spot on, you cross the threshold at a foot or two high, then continue on without losing any height, the motor idling being enough to keep it flying. All you can do is either cut the motor as you cross the threshold (risky) or force it down and rely on the drag from the wheels to slow it down (not pretty).
I've modified the wing and fitted barn door flaps, but tbh haven't tried it since, as my current club strip isn't really big enough to be experimenting with stuff. One day day soon!!
