Three old Dinky racing cars that had spent the last 60 years competing in “The Sandpit Grand Prix” – I straightened out the castings and daubed on some paint. The wheels are from Matchbox Yesteryear cars. Not the best restorations you will ever see, but they look much better than they did.
I buy bulk lots of old Matchbox cars in battered condition to repaint. Sometimes unusual versions turn up among the shrapnel, which I will leave as they are.

Yes, it's always a difficult decision - whether to simply put them back as they were, or to make some improvements along the way. I must admit that sometimes the temptation to remove moulding marks, paint in lights and grilles, fit more authentic wheels etc, gets the better of me! Others just put them back exactly as they were, warts and all.Well, to each his own; they're your models after all, don't let the rest of us tell you what to do with them.

Better wheels can make a real visual impact on a simple casting.
Most of my Matchboxes have been repainted (or touched in) – even if they were not badly chipped in the first place. They were made in their millions and are not exactly in short supply now, so I don’t think it matters if I don’t leave them in their “original” state.
(At an average price of a £1 each, it’s a cheap hobby, even if they have no resale value when finished )

Could you recommend a source for drill/tap/screws and wheels for Matchbox/Hot Wheels please? A quick google didn't find much outside of the US.
