Three old Dinky racing cars that had spent the last 60 years competing in “The Sandpit Grand Prix” – I straightened out the castings and daubed on some paint. The wheels are from Matchbox Yesteryear cars. Not the best restorations you will ever see, but they look much better than they did.

I buy bulk lots of old Matchbox cars in battered condition to repaint. Sometimes unusual versions turn up among the shrapnel, which I will leave as they are.

Yes, it's always a difficult decision - whether to simply put them back as they were, or to make some improvements along the way. I must admit that sometimes the temptation to remove moulding marks, paint in lights and grilles, fit more authentic wheels etc, gets the better of me! Others just put them back exactly as they were, warts and all.

Well, to each his own; they're your models after all, don't let the rest of us tell you what to do with them.

Very true – often a Dinky can be enhanced greatly by adding a few details.
Better wheels can make a real visual impact on a simple casting.

Most of my Matchboxes have been repainted (or touched in) – even if they were not badly chipped in the first place. They were made in their millions and are not exactly in short supply now, so I don’t think it matters if I don’t leave them in their “original” state.
(At an average price of a £1 each, it’s a cheap hobby, even if they have no resale value when finished laugh )

The Dinky racers are some of my favourite castings. They open themselves up to lots of historically correct liveries as well as the original Dinky liveries.

A very quick build. Revells 1/160 scale Slave 1.
A very simple kit decided to do as a one day build. I think it took about 6 hours in total over a couple of days. Not perfect, but not too bad either.

It's Bobba Fett's 'flying iron' from The Empire Strikes Back.

Nicely weathered Rob!

Not bad for a kit that costs less than a tenner and a handful of Tamiya paints I already had.
Like I said I’m pleased with how it turned out. So pleased in fact I had to do a quick photoshop job.

Nice.

Could you recommend a source for drill/tap/screws and wheels for Matchbox/Hot Wheels please? A quick google didn't find much outside of the US.

I admit that I didn't know either!

Guess there are others like me who've never seen any of the Star Wars films. smile

Admittedly it is a bit niche.

Back in the day it was compared to an orbital sander.
