Whilst not 100% finished (I m making a base for it next)
This is my latest build. Messerschmitt P.1101 in 1/32 scale.
A really nice kit.

That's really cool. What did you use for the bare metal areas? This is my latest build. Messerschmitt P.1101 in 1/32 scale.

I'm currently wrestling with Airfix's 1/72 B-24 that I'm attempting a bare-metal finish on...

Alclad 2 aluminium I’m afraid. I don’t think you can get it anywhere now.I'm currently wrestling with Airfix's 1/72 B-24 that I'm attempting a bare-metal finish on...
Tamiya lacquer black as the undercoat. Which I then polished with polishing pads.
I mostly got the effect I was looking for.

I've got some Alclad, albeit only the chrome I think which I've used on some bike kits. Tamiya lacquer black as the undercoat. Which I then polished with polishing pads.

I tried Tamiya's LP (can't remember the number) which I quite liked, but it wasn't quite a fine enough pigment or something. Just didn't look quite right but I did like how durable it was. I also tried AK Real Metals, which I really liked the finish but found it's really temperamental and delicate and the second plane I've done hasn't turned out as well as the first.
I'm starting to think my mistake was doing fine coats of the polished metal over the black base. Thinking about it logically, that must eradicate the point of the gloss black base as I'm effectively putting the silver over silver if I do multiple layers. The B-24 being so big, I reckon there are patches that I've over sprayed the silver onto the silver.
This isn't the roadster pickup it was supposed to be!
Too many things weren't working at the mock up stage but a chance image of a tufty bush-whacking beetle altered the course and it then ran away with itself!
Yes, the tyres are brown. No, I can't really explain, but.....they are.
Non shiny. DON'T look underneath. Bits of bent metal glued to it. Brush ferrule exhaust tip.

This 1/72 B-24 has almost made me lose my modelling mojo.
I wanted to do a bare-metal Hethel based scheme, and did some research and trials on suitable paints. Made two smaller kits and tried two paint types; Tamiya’s LP which was nice and robust but the pigment just looked a bit ‘big’ and metallic. Then tried AK’s Real Metal paints on a P47 kit and it was good. Seemed robust enough to mask over without any issues.
Did exactly the same on the B-24 and masked the anti-glare panel and the masking tape (which was only on there for maybe 10-15 mins) has taken a layer of the silver off. The silver had a fortnight to cure.
Think I’m just going to ignore it. Face it the other way in the display case and move on with my model-making life.

Im always extremely nervous about masking over metallics and decals (even after clearcoat) and always "de-tack" the masking tape by applying it to the back of my hand and peeling it off a couple of times. its a bit of a compromise, but seems to work for me.
I can only imagine how frustrating that must be, but I hope you persevere and give it another coat. The model looks worth it.
On a more positive note I'm really impressed by how well you managed to paint the cockpit glass surrounds, particularly on a small scale kit! It's something I really struggle with. Have you got a particular technique that you use?
