That's true of almost every open top car built before about 1995, though. Tin tops don't necessarily protect you that much better, come to that.

Even modern cabs with pop-up roll hoops don't actually protect you very well, from what I've seen. If you intend to roll a cabriolet, get one with a roll-cage.

That applies to any cabriolet of the era, surely... but I'll be doing 5mph everywhere from now on. jester

The roofs certainly dont fold flat like that, shocking...

No, but if you wallop your head on the road it's almost certainly going to kill you anyway.

I'm not sure that anyone has ever built a four-seat cabriolet that can really protect its occupants in a rollover.

Oh, and if you really want one (and are daft enough to buy without driving one first) you'll need the stupid deflector thing which fits behind the front seats and renders the back seats even more useless.

MX5 wink

Come on, you can't post a reply like this and not put up a few pics! (Yes, saw your profile one - very nice.)

The car is the original prototype Dimma cabriolet No.1 which makes it very, very unique!
It was converted when it was brand new by Dimma Design in Delamere, Cheshire to be a show car for a Peugeot dealership in Leeds to showcase the Peugeot 306 cabriolet
and the conversion work done by Dimma Design.
Its got Group A rally suspension,
It was on sale for £20,000+ back then.
The first owner had the interior fully trimmed in leather and he got a first-of-it's-kind spoiler
shipped over from Germany and fitted to the car at a considerable cost
(the spoiler does not appear on any of the hard-top 306 Dimma's). It's a full wide-arch model with widened track
and Peugeot Group-A suspension which Dimma Design approached Peugeot for as this had been used successfully on their World Rally cars.
It was fitted to the car by Dimma at the time of being converted.
The car was originally a 2ltr 8v model and has had a Gti6 conversion, so it now has a six-speed gearbox,
a 2ltr 16v engine and 167 horsepower! So all of these features coupled with the Group-A suspension,
I hope this can fill your needs? lol

to be fair to the Pug, they did launch that quite high compared to the others at the start of the video that were pulled onto their roofs rather than launched.

I'm looking at this as a runaround for mrs whilst her new xc40 takes an extra 4 months to arrive...

Crucially the auto hood doesnt work...can it be operated manually though ? And has anyone had to fix one and know a ballpark garage cost ?

You can definitely 'mod' the roof to just go up and down manually, done it for someone a few years back that didn't
want to spend any money on it. Getting it fixed would probably cost more than the car is worth, convert it to manual
and enjoy the fact it isn't ever going to break and leave you with the roof down in a hailstorm.

You can unlock the mechanism via the boot and raise / lower it manually. I had to with mine for a while after it spat out all its hydraulic fluid, down the side of someone's Range Rover yikes
