As much as I like the 406's its the 505 saloon top of my wish list because we used to have one, same thing for the estate. While it'll be practical is not really what I'm after.

I may well of course never find one and if thats the case then so be it.

The only other thing I'm keeping an eye out for is a nice 605 SVE 24v, again a very rare car these days. There is one on the bay at the moment in red but its in a bit of a state and has quite a few issues.

I had one, my first barge in fact. '91 Black with biscuit leather, bought off some dodgy bloke on Canvey Island. Lovely wafter. PaS was intermittent and the poor thing died of head gasket failure after I'd sold it on.

Saw the poor thing dumped with all glass broken outside a Waitrose some time after frown

The GTi is a 2.2L 4 pot and I think unless I'm very much mistaken was used as a basis for the Lotus 2.2 used in the Esprit (could be horribly wrong though!)

V6 is a 2.8l engine, very smooth from what I can remember of my dads old one.

Ahh it was Vauxhall after a bit of digging, well the block anyway (tho PSA group used it in the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam which is probably where I was getting mixed up).

They do seem to be up for sale at significantly higher prices on the continent, in the States even more so! There seemed to be a decent American market for them as well.

That grey one does look nice though smile

Quick update from me on this.

Still no luck in tracking down a decent 505 V6 or GTi BUT....

I will be collecting a very nice 605 SVE V6 this weekend, relatively low mileage, full leather in excellent condition and a brand new 12 month MOT, all for the princely sum of £469 thumbup

I'll post up some photo's once I've collected it (hopefully on Sunday)

Well done OP, you set yourself quite a challenge there

I distinctly remember reading in some magazine in the early 90s about the 605s ability to empty a Peugeot workshop at the sight of one arriving as they were pigs to work on. How true this actually is I don't know

Post pics as I have a soft spot for a 605, I can't remember the last time I seen one

Touching wood very quickly its been a well looked after car and everything (bar two bulbs) still works.

The way I'm looking at it is for the price I'm paying should something go badly wrong with it I'll just sell it to the scrapman (would be a shame though. Should get at least a couple of hundred back for it. The engine is good and gearbox is fine so even if I only get a years motoring then it will have paid for itself. Hopefully it will go on a lot longer though!

Quite a rare beast by the looks of it. This Peugeot 504 coupe is quite a looker, something I've never seen before: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-pa...

'How many left' reckons there are 3 V6 autos left, no manuals at all. 7 manual GTI's left, 8 auto's frown Could have been a long wait!

Pics of the 605 please!

Interestingly though, there are 10 more 505 V6 auto's on SORN as well so they are out there, just hiding very well!

I'll keep looking but I know that I may well never find one.

was there a 504 before the 505, was it called that?

My dad was service manager for a set of dealerships down in the south and they took on the peugeot/talbot franchise just as the 205 was launched.

So we had all sorts of weird and wonderful things on the drive, 205,305,505 etc.

I think he had a 505gti as a demo, or perhaps a v6.

I do vaguely recall a 504 estate for a while as well.

White with blue velour interior, with the springiest seats I ever sat in, which for me as a 8 year old was great!

Just seen this. There used to be an estate near me, can't remember if it was a V6 or GTI though. I'll mosey down there and have a look if it's still there, going for a cycle in a bit anyway smile

Quick update from me.

Picked up my 605 last weekend, all in all its better than the average 605 out there. It has a few little niggles but nothing too serious. Body isnt too bad other than a little lacquer peel on the front grille. Interior is in lovely condition, will post some pics once I've given the leather a clean.

Here is a pic though taken yesterday.

I saw a pale gold 505 GTD in Calpe last week - typical Spanish battered look to it too.
