As per title. I'm looking for a clio 182. Either a cup or a trophy.
Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when buying? And how reliable are they?
I just got an insurance quote for £300 fully comp (40 y/o full ncb), anyone pay less?

Try looking at this thread just below for some opinions.

Reliability wise is good on the engine front but there are a few known areas to be aware of. Off the top of my head they are:
Engine and gearbox mounts, easy fix.
Headlamp washer leaking, not too difficult from what I gather but also not a major issue.
Airbag lights coming on, resistor or something under seat coming away.
Exhaust mounts on a 172 and in particular 182, exhaust is too heavy for a Shockingly poor design of mount, easy fit new one or get Prima racing upgrade.

I've got a 172 and a 182 and they are great fun. Well worth buying but be sure to look for history of Cambelt change every 5 years. Expensive job along with aux belt, water pump and Dephaser at year 10.

TBH I would get one with aircon, Xenons and cheap to replace suspension wink

As for reliability, mine has been great for the 18 months that I've owned it.

The Trophy comes with aircon smile. Furthermore, the suspension doesn't need replacing, rather the Sachs remote reservoir dampers need refurbishing, after a certain period of usage/time.

Not wishing to sound picky, rather just trying to offer some helpful advice to the OP smile.

As good as replacing considering the cost!

well not really, it costs roughly £200-£400 to have them worked on, to replace is more like £1200.

I had one for nigh on 7 years, bought at 18months old, 8000 miles just sold it this summer at 58k miles, due to lack of use. Really missed it recently. Fantastic cars, I used my locally but a fair bit on longer runs from Herts to the south coast and Devon and found it perfectly comfortable on the motorway, yet others say it's noisy/bumpy etc. I found at 70 mph it seemed to settle down and gave great economy i.e 39 mpg - calculated by brimming the tank although the trip computer was 0.1mpg out so happy to use that.

I would look at a few as I would imagine they're getting to the age where work is required and there are lots of cheap ones so maybe maintenance has been missed.

Good lucks, pics etc when you get one.

P.S I am actually very jealous, I absolutely loved mine. Great fun and I thought despite the humble basics, it felt special. Especially when I hadn't used it for a while and the rough idling etc just felt a bit alive. Maybe I'm being daft or have rose tinted spectacles on but I don't care, it's how I feel!!
