I've just stumbled on these Coupe's on the classifieds and I'm amazed at how cheap they are.
I've always liked the looks personally and am tempted even more after looking at the prices.

What are the known issues with the car in general and the engines? Are they an electrical nightmare?
Would only be interested in the 3.0 V6 petrol or 2.7 V6 Diesel.
Am I right in saying that the 2.7 is the same as in certain Jags?

I don't know an awful lot about these but a friend had an experience with one a couple of years ago which was unpleasant.

He claimed the automatic gearbox was one of the most tragic he had ever used and it had a problem after the first 3 days of being registered. It was his belief that the car had sat un-registered waiting to be bought for around 18 months during which time the weather had taken it's toll. Dodgey brakes and an electrical failure and he returned the car and got his money back.

I have no idea how true certain elements of the story are, the guy has always been exceptionally fussy and had a habbit of telling tall stories, but the car was shocking regardless.

They look good though!

AFAICT, the 2.7 diesel is the same as the Jaguar except it is single turbo not twin. Having test driven both the 407 coupe and the Jag S type, they may be the same engine but the experience is not the same - the 407 seems to be noisier.

As for the cheap price? Well, unless you find a 55 plate diesel, tax is £450 a year for the diesel, fuel consumption isn't good either and come cambelt change time, expect a massive bill. That doesn't make an attractive proposition for most buyers these days.

The 407 was twin turbo as well.

Your getting it confused with the disco 3 which has the single turbo variation of this engine.

Had one for three years from new (admittedly a 2.2 petrol). Not a single thing went wrong with it, every option and a pleasure to spend time in. Got a massive discount and didn't lose much when I eventually p/x'd it. Look much better in the flesh than in pictures.

Hi,

I ran the 2.7GT for two years. Black with dark red interior.

Very nice car, lots of postive reactions from people. Very well equipped, super quiet; electronic engine mounts and double glazing means you won't notice its a diesel.

I loved the look of it including the nose and flying buttresses.

On the negative side: found the ride a bit crashy at times, leather on drivers seat was losing colour (was at 40k miles when we sold it), had a problem with the sat-nav that never really got solved - dealer tried hard but it never really worked. One freak incident with a wheel bearing that the manufacturer paid for (car under decent warranty). Dash a bit plasticy but ours was mostly leather covered so looked okay.

Could get 45mpg on a run up North, good luggage space, resonably quick.....overall a good experience.

I think they are an absolute bargain; bought ours at 3 years old and 20k on the clock for £12k was £32k new!!- part-exchanged it at £6k two years later. Lot of car for the money but not as well constructed as Jag, BMW etc.

I've just recommended these to a friend who is looking for a coupe at c£5k.
