I have no use for a diesel saloon, but I have to say I am drawn to the 508. They had good reviews when they were launched, and are a bargain now due to strong depreciation in the first 3 years.

The GT spec is my favourite and you good kit levels as well, shame it only comes in automatic.

I like everything about the 508 except that the interior is rather boring and the rear lights on the estate don't look very nice.
Yep. That's a really disappointing trade-off. The estate is definitely the one to have, but you don't get the funky rear lights frown

yes

IMHO the rear of the 508 saloon, is what the rear of the Jaguar XJ should have looked like.

Its Citroen equivalent, the C5, is also available with a slightly detuned version of the Jag/PSA 3.0 twin turbo diesel. 240Ps I believe.

If I were in the market for the 508, and if I could find one, I would also have a good look at the Citroen too. With the V6 TD comes the full Hydromatic suspension for motorway wafting. Mmm.

Praise indeed. If this one is still around next weekend I'll go give its tyres a kick.

What a lovely looking car. I haven't seen or heard much about them but just looked them up and the interior looks like a magnificent place to sit!

In the handbook the autobox description is a Porsche Tiptronic.

Have driven dozens through work in various guises. I really like them. Ride well, steer well and a nice place to sit. Estate with full glass roof is what I'd want. Don't drive as well as a Mondeo but much more comfortable.

Did consider oner recently had to go to car sacrifice and the depreciation made them very attractive at just 2 years old. Ended up buying my mondeo titanium x from the leasing company for relative peanuts hope I made the right decision!

Cheif photocopier salesmen are entitled to the RXH, which I think looks quite good but is unfortunately a big piece of fake gheyness, in so much that it is 2WD only.
You are incorrect, the RXH is (at least when it wants to be) 4WD.

Theyve just released a facelift, so expect the first generation models to take a further nose dive in price.

They are the eponymous choice for Dutch photcopier salesmen it seems, so I see a lot of them, and I must admit they look good.

All our Dutch guys seem to run them as company cars, for tax reasons I think, as opposed to a conscious decision to take it over the competition available.

You are right, been back on the Pug site... in the technical specs it listed the drivetrain as being 2wd, but its actually 4WD via the Hybrid drivetrain.

I like it more now.
The setup is interesting. It's a normal FWD setup but with an electric motor driving the rear wheels, the starter motor replaced with a starter/generator, and a load of clutches and electronics to co-ordinate it all. So despite having 4WD capability there is no propshaft.

It's nowhere near as elegant as Toyota's hybrid solution, but it has the advantage that it can be retrofitted to existing PSA models without major rework. You can also get it with the Citroen DS5.

I've never driven a Hybrid4 but anyone who has seems to think they're diabolically terrible, something to do with the gearbox and the roughness of the diesel lump when it fires up.

Autocar seem to think that the engine is almost impossible to notice in these!

Really?! Are we talking about the same diesel hybrid version? I struggle to see how a 2.0 HDi can be impossible to notice!

I just remember Autocar complimenting the refinement, I can't remember the detail!

Available in 200bhp, 330ft lb torque, 145mph, 45mpg spec - lovely.

Shame Peugeot's official blurb is so embarrassing:

"Red stitching on the gearbox bellows gives a sporty feeling for grown ups" biglaugh

Got one in my parents. The thing is barely audible. The HDi is a superb motor.
