I have had inordinate amounts of want for a phase 1 Safrane for years now - I know of a bloke not too far from me with a fully loaded ‘93 3.0 RXE tucked in a shed with under 35,000 miles on it, however online reg checkers suggest that it’s not had a ticket on it since 2015, which makes me worry about what state all its rubbers and electrics are in…that said, if I took a punt and offered him bad money and he accepted it, then it’d be mighty difficult to say ‘non’.The lotto garage would have a Biturbo Baccara in it, without a shadow of a doubt, right next to a Williams 3 and the daily A110 Legende. I should probably start playing the lotto…
Just bought this megane with the world's longest name...megane sport tourer 1.5dci 110 dynamique tom-tom stop/start!
79000 miles, one owner from new, no documented timing belt done, so bought the kit with water pump and tensioner to change ASAP.
I've never driven one before, and coming from an r50 Mini cooper, the clutch feels quite high? Is this normal for diesel Renault? No clutch slip or any other worrying signs, I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Be glad of any advice on what to look out for and if anyone has remapped one? Will this kill anything else, such as clutch etc...I gather the dual mass flywheel and clutch is expensive to replace?
Been quoted £179 to take power to 140bhp and torque to 310nm...

Got the GTA Turbo finished in its latest guise over the summer. I've owned it since 1990 so the spec has evolved alot over the years. Had a new custom turbo install (Garrett G Series) with an Emerald ECU (previously on Adaptronic). Car runs a Safrane Biturbo engine adapted to inline fitting with GTA parts. Pretty much everything on the car is now non standard (even the Audi Moonlight blue paint). Made 320 BHP and 360 ft/lbs on Road and Tracks conservative reading rollers (standard 2.5 GTA Turbo makes about 185 BHP) . Also whacked a couple of 265/35 18" Kuhmo Ecstas on the back which seem to transmit the power pretty well. Car is only 1200KG so has the same torque to weight ratio as a 911 Turbo (997) so as you can imagine it goes quite well.
Thanks as always to John at JL Engineering , he always does an immaculate job and I wouldn't consider letting anybody else work on the car now.
This has to be my favorite project. It's in my head for decades now and here it is.Thanks as always to John at JL Engineering , he always does an immaculate job and I wouldn't consider letting anybody else work on the car now.
I drove an early V6 A310 and was blown away by its capability: a period 911 is a truck!
Now all I need is a donor car
Stuck in the house with Covid and enjoying reading this thread. Here is my contribution. Do love Reno.
First car was a 1.2 Billabong which I spent far too much money on turning it into a 172 replica. Absolute pride and joy many good memories. Sadly crashed it. Remember crying when selling the wheels learnt a lot from it however. Thankfully just me and a pole.

Few years later I bought a lovely, standard Ph1 172. Think it had about 30k on the clock, I didn't own it very long due to tax/insurance costs.
Few cars in between these (non French) minus a Clio 1.5 110 DCi then a 65 DCi I then picked up a black 172 Ph1. I wish I kept hold of this. Owner had it for many years but just needed tidied up, wheels done etc which I did and almost polished the paint off. For some reason I didn't keep hold.
Before the black 172 I already had my ultimate aim and current pocket rocket. My Ph1 230 V6. I have owned this for over 10 years which is mad. I still adore it massively.
Was close to buying a Williams 2 many years ago but needed a lot of work. Quite fancy a 172 Cup or another Ph1 172 or maybe a 182 FF appears good ones are hard to come by.
I'm also kicking about in a 2009 Megane DCi.
Not sure if its just my luck or differences in mileage but I notice a big difference in the build quality (mainly interior) from a 'standard' Renault to a a proper RS (17/82, V6 etc) guess they were built in different factories.

Why have 1 Megane when you can have 2!
Yellow is MK4 RS Sport 300 last ever UK car to leave the production line in Palencia in December 2021 according to the UK RS Brand manager (3 other cars left the factory in early 2022 bound for the UK but mine apparently was last ever off the line due to no time consuming extras like sun roofs & other options which take months to get due to parts shortages!).
Blue is a 2010 TCe 180 with 322NM & 190BHP. Very reluctantly selling but taking time to sell due to time wasters & me not wanting to reduce the price anymore as I spent about £8K on mods, spares & keeping the car in good condition! Still drive her regular as well to keep her running in good condition.
Yellow is something else though. Handling is stunning it can take tight & twisty corners at speeds you would not dare attempt in other lesser cars & can even leave hypercars costing several times more for dust over a tight twisty typical UK B Road! Acceleration is also pretty rapid thanks in no small part to the stunning EDC semi-auto gearbox. In Race engine mode latency is minimal & its a stunning piece of kit offering seamless rapid changes. Renault should have added a 7th gear overdrive though that would have allowed the car to push way higher than its official 162MHP top speed as it runs out of puff in 6th gear you just feel it can go a bit higher..... Its sadly cancelled now no longer possible to buy a new one the replacement will be an Alpine branded EV or Hybrid RS equivalent.

Missed this at the time.I bloody love these and not seen one for years and years. Fell in love with them as a teenager on holidays in France in the 1970s.
There are some seriously fast ones still competing in French hill climbs. Plenty on You Tube.
I’d have another if prices hadn’t gone quite so crazy. A mint Rallye 3 is around 35 to 45 K if you can find one.

That’s exactly how I felt. I had that one for twenty five years. Prior to that I had an orange Rallye 1.

After seeing your pics I hit youtube and there are some great clips. Watched one which seemed to be on slicks in the rain. Very hairy! There are some seriously fast ones still competing in French hill climbs. Plenty on You Tube.
