I think its a future classic going on Clarksons old review i found on youtube.
But im not sure if its old enough for me as i love the 205.
Still a nice looking car though i kind of see it as a newer shape 205 thats why i put pepperpots on her.
Do they look s**t??

All other aspects aside the basic problem you have here is that when you say 205 most people have this picture in their head:

When you say Saxo VTS this picture happens:

I had a standard vtr at uni and it felt really fast. I love the simplicity of the vts, perhaps not a complete classic but def worth a shot.

Ha nice,
I think its one of the last models of that simple oldskool look too. New cars today look like Bugs and Transformers i think

Never been in vtr but the 16v engine in the vts is crazy, and being so light too it just rockets away

Nope. Too common, too pedestrian.

Absolutely could be a future classic.

Cars like these creep up on you, or become suddenly/ unexpectedly desirable almost overnight.

It does have some of the 205 GTI thing going on, and is possibly the most molested 'hot' hatch ever. Untouched originals must already be few and far between.

Those of us that are 30+ are conditioned to dislike them as we naturally associate them with Max Power/ BarryBoys tw*ts modding them in the most distasteful way imaginable.

Look at more recent attempts by the French manufacturers to recapture the magic of their old iconic hot hatches... Saxo VTS (bar some Clios) probably the closest in spirit to something like the 205.

Will people actually pay good money for them? My instinct says no, but I've been wrong before!

I think Ph1 looks better than Ph2. Other posters say "common as muck" but try finding a straight one. Post 2001 (so Ph2) are in the £300/yr tax bracket, for a start.

This one is pretty standard bar wheels obviously, not lowered with crappy jap bits and bobs stuck all over.
I like the old feeling it has to it even though its a 1999 with power steering, the gearbox keeps you alert

The happy face phase2 just looks daft in my opinion but each to their own

Eventually, when they become scarce, they will be (which might be sooner than I think seeing as I cant remember the last time I saw a Saxo on the roads, or even a C2 for that matter, what is it with French cars completely disappearing after about 7 years?) but probably only as much as a Citroen AX GTI is, cant see them having the same amount of appeal as a 205 GTI for example.

I'd agree with most of that, I've never had one but always thought they looked smart when standard, will go up in value but not by a lot I'd say

Its easy to say the cars are associated with barry boys too much... but it wasnt long ago that most R5 turbos looked like this.

Look at the prices of a clean unmodified R5 GT turbo now..

Dont be so sure that an unmolested VTS/VTR will stay at £700 for ever

They were never sold here in Australia - but have seen plenty on the roads in Euroland over the years.

To me, they are the younger brother of the 205 GTI. Yes, it evokes memories of a cheap, quick car which many had in their "youf" - but it will never be the ground breaking classic of which the 205 really instllled a sense of awesomeness and desirability amongst petrol heads. Prices will go up, as finding an "un-f*cked" one eventually will be nigh on impossible.

They just don't do it for me. A Mk1 Clio 172 on the other hand - I predict future classic there...
