Engine Dynamics - £630 incl labour and VAT
Ren7oaks about £760

That's for Cambelt, Dephaser, Aux belt and water pump.

Thanks everyone for helping with this and offering advice - I think I have to get it done irrespective of whether I keep it or sell it beer
The top quotes not bad. Good plan, and deffo get the water pump done at the same time.

Ah you have a cup with aircon! I had one of those and one without. Decided what to do with it yet?

Thanks Stoat - I didn't miss it, I just read it as being how much the parts were, not a price including the labour.

Dad's has got climate as well so that pushed it up to around 550 inc VAT (assuming I have read it correctly?). And it's only another 70-odd for the water pump as well, so I think I'd be daft not to get that done at the same time.
It's not the climate control that gets in the way, it's the aircon.

Unsure of top quote but understand ren7oaks to be a 'specialist'

fking better be because it's who I used last year. Good guys though, although didn't really go any extra mile in surprising me with any additional info regarding the rest of the car.

Simply did what I asked.

Can't complain all in.

I'm really not convinced on the 1*2 cambelt needing to be a specialist job - as long as they use the appropriate locking tools it's not a hard job at all.

I have heard of many F4RT engines being timed wrongly and blowing - its not worth the risk.

I'd put a very sizeable wager that's without using the tools, probably just a bit of tippex! I've done it, and it's very straight forward.

I wouldn't get Halfords to do it, but a decent local Indy I wouldn't hesitate.

Yes, if you have the correct timing/locking tools, you understand the procedure (what you're doing at each step and WHY) know where the potential pitfalls are and you're not a total fool then it's just not as complicated as people make out.

This is a very strange one.

In the Porsche world there is a garage somewhere in between the two. Sometimes he would not say about all of the things on your car but with the parts still functional. I never had any issues with him.

Another very well known specialist would talk of every little bit wrong with your car and very well revered in the Porsche world ; there are a few fanboys out there very loyal to him. OTOH I know of some people who have been bitten badly by him too!

He did my belts etc, a 50-60ml trip each way for me but he came highly recommended.Took a hike up the Tor & visited the factory village while we were there - well it would be rude not too!

Agreed I have had a few RenaultSport clios and my 182 slipped it timing (no damage thankfully) and had to have the belts + dephaser done - the internet suggests the engine will explode if done by a non - specialist, however i got a local trusted garage to do it, no issues whatsoever - as long as they understand the intracacies of the VVT (with the floating something or other which is not exclusive to RenaultSports) then it will be fine.

Dont sell it, if nothing else, keep it and watch it appreciate in a good few years.

Miss mine still!! It now has 187k on the clock and has never missed a beat in all of those miles. The only break down I had was due to my local Renault garage cross threading a plug during a service which blew itself out of the head on the motorway. This happened the day after the service and the AA man recorded that it was x threaded in his job sheet. Renault response...you could have done that after you picked up the car!! Had the head helicoiled for all plugs at a cost of £150 smackers and got nish contribution from Renault art the time.

Keep it, with those miles it will only appreciate. The last true hot hatch IMHO.

I think I probably will be keeping it - no updates since my last post as I've just been too busy with other stuff.

It failed the MOT on exhaust mounts which I sorted and then promptly failed the retest as it decided to dump all its power steering fluid on the floor, presumably because of the shaker plates and the lock-to-lock parts of the test mad

Need to get it booked in for the belt and will get the steering fluid sorted at the same time - hopefully it is just a host rather than the pump, given that it was fine before the MOT test rolleyes

If the power steering pumps shagged then there's a company that does reconditioned pumps , you just have to send your broken one back to them.

If you do decide to sell your clio give me a shout , i miss my cup far more than a 44 year old should.

I'd be interested in making a purchase on it, also. I've a hankering after a 172 Cup to run alongside my 182 Cup. You'd be sending it to a good home smile
