I think it's worth putting this link on in it's own right.

Car #002 which I have bought and sold a couple of times. Now on sale again at a specialist dealer.

It does say in the description it was a press car.

So driven in a “very spirited way” then.

Hmm valued investments those thrashed versions.

The grey car above, are those aftermarket spotlights / foglights? Not seen them before.
I thought it was an aftermarket air intake trim for the brakes.
Thanks. Makes sense.

I bought it from owner no2 who purchased from Renault Croydon where it was in the showroom. There’s one or two pics of it on track online.

I sold it to a retiree who had a business in France with a lot of spare time. He barely used it but had a KTec large bore exhaust fitted. When I bought it back I had that removed and reinstalled the Titanium one.

Then sold to car enthusiast in Kent for his ‘collection’ now back on sale.

Each time I had it on sale I had to contend with people moaning about being a press car (002-006?) and sending me the video of the idiot video blogger crushing empty boxes in the boot because it had a roll cage.

Having had Clio Trophy 002 as well a couple of times I wish I had kept it. When I last sold it it was in immaculate condition and all original. Total spec car so expensive list price incl Pearl White paint.

Be interesting to see what it sells for this time.

As the cars become collector pieces the press connection will become more valuable-it’s part of a car’s interesting history.

I can’t imagine there are many of these that haven’t done extensive track miles-it’s the very reason for the car. If you have one and don’t thrash it on track, what on earth is the point?

I personally tried to buy the ex-Evo fast fleet car a couple of times-as a keeper I saw the value in it’s history.

These are around eight years old now. Eventually the penny will drop that just because a car was driven by motoring hacks it isn’t hard wired to disintegrate a day after its warranty expires. Shock horror, cars can be repaired too! :-)

R26.R are far too valuable now to track.

Anyone with any sense will buy an R26 or a mk3 Megane and strip/modify the thing for track work.

Same thing happened with the 968 CS. Used to see loads of them on track days now sadly any kind of 968 is a rare sight.

Not really-they're no more valuable than they were when new and I did 100s of laps in mine back then. That's not to mention we track the R26.R alongside a 997GT3RS!

R26r is worth the same money now if not a lot more in some cases than they were new

Suppose it depends upon what you can afford to lose. Not sure you can buy the bonnets anymore and evidently the Plexiglass is £3300 from Renault :-S

Go to any track day and you can see loads of vehicles worth multiple times what an R26.R is, the problem isn't the values, it's the type of hoarder-owner who likes to wrap the things up in cotton wool in a garage.

I guess I'm lucky enough to be able to drive one on track as intended

will be interesting to see how the £32k car gets on

the press car thing is interesting - personally i'd have no problem with it, especially if there are good magazine articles

but I do know that JZM found it quite hard work selling an ex press car Cayman R in Peridot Green

Not sure being No.2 makes any difference as such in a numbered limited edition??

but I will be very happy if it gets anywhere near that price.

I bought mine to drive and do the odd track day in...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evWg3IlD3-w

but if it goes up a few £ every year, even better

I've owned mine since 1k miles and have never tracked mine but most of it's 23k miles have been spent going to, from and around the Alps.

Totally agree the r26r was designed to be a road going track car we need due to the low amount of theses special motors made to keep a few non track examples available for years to come likes the escort cosworth there are over 15 hundred left but don’t mean ya have to put them on a rally track because that’s what they are designed for with a few tweeks

73 cars is less than two per county.

I’ve googled but what does forged engine mean in layman’s terms?

Usually uprated stronger crankshaft and con rods so you can increase the boost / BHP of engine without it breaking.

With the note about fuel system etc, it may be quite a bit higher BHP so would go really well versus a standard car. Tarmac Rally Spec :-)
