Interesting to see prices seeming to be stable but not climbing. They look like a good way to avoid depreciation but not to see any significant appreciation

It might seem like I’m biased because I own one but I think it’s strange that they havn’t gone up much, not just because of it’s ability but for it’s uniqueness, cars with large pieces of carbon fibre, and a cage from the factory (in most) aren’t common things and who knows whether there will be more in the future from anyone other than Porsche etc?

I bought mine in Feb 2010 at 1k miles and paid £18.5k (cage / standard exhaust / no climate / manual mirrors) at the time it was quite a good price, I remember Ti exhaust cars being advertised for £21k at the time

Mine has done 25k miles now with 10 Renault service stamps on the book, is it worth a TINY bit more? Maybe, maybe not but it has been amazing to enjoy it without a nasty amount of depreciation, 10 years of insurance and maintenance costs can’t be ignored though!

I know it sounds predictable but I do think they are under priced, I imagine the newest Trophy R will be £38k??? Will it have a carbon bonnet, carbon seats, plastic rear windows and a cage from factory?

I can’t put it any simpler than how many people promised themselves a renault Megane once they’ve made it?

Yes, it’s a very (very!) special car but at the end of the day it’s a front wheel drive French hot hatch. The average person just doesn’t get it.

I guess so!

Another thing, average person has no idea it ever existed and I’m amazed how few “car enthusiasts” under 30 know about it!

I genuinely just happened to be driving down a road in London that is well know for car spotters the other day, groups of 16-30 year olds with cameras at the ready, non noticed the R which really was fine by me but it made me laugh that I’d seem 8 Aventadors that day and I think it’s been 4 years since I saw another R on the road

At the end of the day they're only worth what someone is willing to pay.
I'd pay up to about £30k for a good un if I had the money. Look at Clio V6s, they seemed to shoot up in value a wee while ago and have plateaued. Also, there always seems to be a lot of R26.Rs for sale on here and autotrader comapred to R26s. When I was looking for my car there were loads for sale, maybe other owners are tucking them away hoping their limited status will make them appreciate a tad.

I hear what you're saying about not getting spotted but it depends who your audience is nowadays eh? I'm 35 and I'd get more excited about seeing an R out in the wild (I never have, yet) than most other things. I do get a rare thumbs up or second look when I'm out in my R26, always seems to be from folk that are no younger than me mind you.

That Megane must do more journalist miles than anything else. Any time a magazine needs an R26.R that's the one that gets used.

I think Youtubers have run out of things to say about the same old same old same old modern stuff, not surprising though is it, blah blah blah 458 with these options, blah blah blah Aventador with these options......... YAAAAAAAAAAAWN

He’s wrong about the brakes, yes the calipers are ok but
not the discs, lots of owners upgraded to the Ktec bigger disc kit, braided hoses and better pads, that’s when they get REALLY good!

The seats aren’t carbon “BACKED” like a Porsche seat option, they ARE carbon

I’m not sure that the gear ratios are different to the R26

The spring rates are different because the car is lighter

He forgot to mention that the tailgate and the front wings aren’t metal

Also not sure the 8:17 Ring time was actually done on he R888s that you could option from new, I think I read somewhere it might have been done with a Pilot Sport Cup tyre

I saw the video before it came down, it was almost a video review equivalent of an Evo or PH review I'd read. Might have forgotten the Titanium Exhaust IIRC. Quite strange it came down.

Funny you said that. I found a pic of my car in queue outside 'Supercar Sunday' at GW where the poster said 'Unnoticed by most, this R26.R is probably the rarest car at Supercar Sunday' I was visiting and not invited obviously!

R26.R fans will love this on Harry's Garage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4wmG59E1y0

I really can't see the point of the preposterously expensive new Megane Trophy R, other than to boost interest in the RS 275 Trophy-R and R26.R as being better value and more usable options in comparison. And less silly than a 5 door car with only 2 seats.

Given the fact we are and have been seeing notable downward pressure on classic car prices over the last few years (with the Silverstone auction last weekend affirming it yet again) do we think it’s time to talk about how much the car can really sell for in this market?

Not really, they're not that abundant and already undervalued versus Fords. See them fairly stable if you have a good one.

You mean Presentation Pack I think. £400-£500 seems to be what people want for them and there are bound to be a few languishing in lofts around the country!

My loft included!

Prices seem fairly stable but there seems to be an increased amount for sale.

I have mine in my loft. Still in the cardboard delivery packet it came in. Just wish I kept the car also. Lol
