My daughter has 2016 DS3 and the locking wheel nut adaptor has been lost, local dealer is adamant that this requires all the locking wheel nuts to be drilled and replaced, is this really the only option ?

many thanks in advance

It is possible to get spare keys IF you know the code. As locking wheel nuts are an OE fitment it's just possible (but, unfortunately, unlikely) that the code is registered somewhere in Citroen's system.

Otherwise, a tyre specialist should have a removal tool which will be quicker & cheaper than drilling - you can buy one from Halfords for around £20, which does make you wonder just how secure locking wheelnuts really are!

Which ever way you do it your probably damage the wheel, my way would be to weld a nut on the top of the locking wheel nut.

I'm surprised that the main dealer doesn't have some kind of master set.

I used to have locking wheel nuts on my LR Discovery. The keys supplied by LR are made of chocolate, but at least the dealer had a master set. After the 2nd one broke (always at the weekend when the dealers are closed!) I binned the locking nuts for ordinary ones.

In an emergency you can often hammer a (sacrificial) socket over the locked but to get it off - that's what I ended up doing.

Main dealer should be able to order you a replacement, even if you don't have a code number. The suppliers are normally able to supply a replacement from a decent digital image

Locking wheel nuts have cost me (and my customers) more grief, time wasting, money, etc etc than all the other car problems put together. They are a complete waste of time, bin the lot and fit normal wheel bolts.
When was the last time you saw a car on bricks with the wheels stolen? especially a Citroen/Peugeot. Your more likely to be mugged and the whole car stolen.

There was one on here the other day - nothing too fancy, an A Class Merc, I think.

McLaren don't do pit stops now though, they don't last long enough

When I bought my car I didn't have the key for it and unfortunately only discovered this when I had a puncture. Renault where of course their usual helpful selves so I called the RAC who came out with a universal adaptor thing which he hammered on and released the wheel with. Worth a try.

When I got mine out it had a letter stamped into the end of the bolt. This letter was a code that lined up with a key for sale on ebay that fitted the other three bolts. No idea if Citroen use a similar system though.
