Probably the most embarrassing question I have ever had to ask.

I bought a 2003 607 HDi 2.0L from local garage and well, they dropped it off at our home today and I can't seem to find the reverse. I'm looking at the gear knob and it shows that reverse it top-left to engage but when I push it as far left as I can, it makes car go forward. I tried the other gears to see if I was having a blonde moment and no reverse lights show. I am stumped and feel beyond stupid. Previous car was a 2016 Volvo and a BMW 320 and their reverse was bottom far right. Surely I must be doing something wrong? Literally owned 6 cars and never not found reverse.

Really don't want to have to phone dealer in the morning and look beyond daft. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Try pushing down onto the lever (into the floor), then moving it even further across.

Sorry, and well done for recognising that it was such an embarrassing question to ask on PH....

Worst I've had is the first style BMW mini with a six speed box..... very hard to get into reverse until you 'get it'. And actually very hard physically too. No collars or anything, you just have to put about eight stone of weight on it to push it further left than seem so possible....

Personal moments of struggle for me was getting the petrol cap cover open on my first Audi. So simple, but after years of having levers to pull or buttons to push.... working out how to open it was so embarrassing.......

I took a Cooper S JCW in PX where the seller said it had an AC Schnitzer short shift gear lever. Actually it was a cut down one standard one, and try getting that into reverse :-)

Many many years ago I hired a Mini, never having driven one, and also couldn't get it into reverse, which was to the right and down between 3rd and 4th. The guy told me, "You just have to surprise it"!
