Coming round to the idea of a RS280 Cup after sitting in one at Brands last week and also after many months searching for a nearly new Cupra with uba-rare buckets (and wheel hop !!!).

I had a Cupra ST with buckets and whilst they looked nice, they were rock hard and lacked adjustment.

In fact they were one of the reasons I got rid of it.

Hi,

Can anyone who has a 19 or 69 plate cup or sport chassis confirm if it has gpf and do you get the pops and bangs from the exhaust?

I can only test drive trophy’s near me which have the optional exhaust.

What's GPF?

Gas particulate filter, it’s an added fitting to the exhaust which on some cars limit sound, the late 2019 models are meant to have it

has anybody else noticed worse than normal condensation in their 280/300 ? A couple of times all of my windows have been dripping wet. Its a bit of a concern going into winter thinking I might have to scrape inside and outside if i don'd find a cause or solution.

The vents at foot of windscreen on my Mk3 Megane get blocked quite quickly. Causes a funny vibrating noise at speed rather than condensation.

Might be worth checking.

I collected my 69 plate 280Cup on the 12th October.

It has the gpf fitted and you still get the pops and bangs, particularly in "sport" and "race" mode. Bit of heat in the exhaust and it gets very noticeable!

Along with the gpf you also supposedly get the upgraded turbo as fitted to the trophy model, so presumably it's a combination of the mapping (via an extra bit of boost?) and possibly the exhaust that provide the Trophy's extra 20bhp.

I've not seen a super clear explanation as the exhaust differences, save the 280 supposedly changes its routing due to exhaust pressure and the trophy by an electronically controlled valve. Yet at idle in the 280 changing the mode to sport or race from neutral instantly changes the exhaust note without affecting idle.

This is the best lease deal for one of these at current, as far as I'm aware, if anyone was interested. This is just for a standard 280 with the free white paint but it's still good value.

I've already got a new Cupra 290 on order, which is better value, cheaper and has much more standard equipment than the Megane, but I've always wanted a Renault Sport. Not sure I'd want to go back to a manual though and the Cupra is already a bit more than I originally wanted to spend per month. I'd also probably lose my current processing fee.

I just think that the Renault will be much more fun to drive and the standard exhaust note is lovely, even with the GPF fitted. Those pops and bangs are the thing that tempts me the most! The Cupra does it too, just not as loud and pronounced.

That's pretty cheap. If my circumstances were different I'd be really tempted by those numbers.

They’re an optional wheel that was supposed to only go to Europe, they’ve been added to a few UK cars by ‘mistake’ and are called FUJI. IIRC they are 2kg per corner lighter and have Potenza S007 instead of the normal S001 on the Trophy.

I was told that only 2 cars in the UK have those wheels (we have one) but the one you’ve posted means I’ve now seen 3 hehe they’re coming as a UK option next year for general release.

Looks great in that colour/wheel combo and that cars got Recaros too!

Cheers. I don't think any of the new Megane wheel designs are particularly that great, but the above is IMO the best option so far. I quite like them. Much better than the ones with the red bits eek

Strangely, my Boss prefers the Tri-Colour standard Trophy wheels and wants to swap them for the FUJI ones he has fitted. I quite like them and a bit less weight isn't a bad thing!

OK, 2 weeks or so into ownership and a couple of little noises that I wouldn't mind tracking down or at least knowing what they are.

1. When high up rpm or generating full boost then backing off or gear changing there is a soft squeak/duck quack quack noise. Is this the dump/re-circ valve. I've heard mooing and quacking type noises reported on other cars due to OEM dump/re-circ valves, so wondered if this was the same. It would appear normal as I have heard it on more then one Youtube road test review on RS280 and Trophy's. So just wondering what it is and whether it can be suppressed.

2. Around 5000rpm vibration (stops above say 5500rpm) from dash/centre (ish) that almost sounds electrical, as if it's a noise coming through the fake sound/induction path. Different sound modes however do not alter it. It may just be some plastics resonating in there somewhere or even something on the bulkhead.

Cheers

Doesn’t seem to be much online about fuel, are you guys running super unleaded and is it a Renault requirement?

I'd definitely run super. Every Renault Sport I've had has recommended 97 octane (Clio 172/182/Megane 275).

Others may differ!

Fuel cap says 95/98 so either is fine.

Thr current RS280 is stressing me out no end. Was obsessed with getting one, took it for a test drive and it was like meeting your hero, an anticlimax. Since then though Ive become obsessed again and the 0% is calling to me like a siren, I just cant justify the intense depreciation and £280 a month payment since I already pay £300pm on a 44mpg Mazda!! I just need to hear that the car is a junkboat that blows its engine and is awful to drive and own and eats petrol. Convince me its an awful car!!

Can't help much on convincing you it's crap. I drove the type r, drove very well but couldn't actually own it. The golf was also good, but its just a golf. A effective tool rather than a desirable object. Same for leon.

The second I arrived at the dealership that had the rs sitting in volcanic orange, cup pack, alcantara interior etc it was just completely special. A proper desirable car. Something to look forward to every journey in. You could go back and forward between the pros and cons of how each car in the segment drive, and realistically I know there is little separates any of them but the guys in Dieppe understand, and for the most part have always understood, what I want in a car.
