I think it comes down to whether accuracy or extension is important to you. I've probably not played enough via the sub to be sure - but in the few hours I had it I always felt that the standard focal system sounded better. It's unfortunate that if you have the sub you don't have the option of choosing to let the door speakers handle the bass.
We have a Focal system with the sub in our Légende (could not test before purchase when ordering in 2018). When I drove the Alpine courtesy car some time a go for two days (with the standard Focal system); I noticed my style of music (Techno with heavy bass) sounded actually much better on the system without the sub (and I played with all the settings on both cars). If we could order again today; then it would have been 100% the Focal system without the Sub. For me; the system with the sub is no upgrade, but a downgrade. Yes, I’m tall and the lowest position is perfect for me - I’ll be driving most of the time. The OH is short and only the highest setting was good for her when she tried it out. At the moment she doesn’t drive either of the Elises but I want her to drive the (possibly) A110. If she can’t get the driving position right then she won’t.
Reasons for not getting the Legende? I HATE leather seats and I’m also quite skinny and found them too wide. The Pure seats were as good as any I’ve sat in, so why compromise?
I'm also skinny and indeed when driving on track you sit more loose in the Legende seats (on street I did not find this an issue). I love leather seats (in a daily car) and most times alcantara or other fabrics start to looks realy bad after some years wear and tear. But for our A110 it was the obvious choice to go for Légende seats; my girlfriend drives on the highest seating position and me on the lowest. With the fixed bucket seat it would have been a hassle to adjust them every time with the screws. By the way: I measured this with my helmet on. In the lowest position of the Légende seat I had slightly more headroom then with the buckets seats in their lowest position.Reasons for not getting the Legende? So I've had the misfortune of hurriedly slamming a fairly loaded back boot shut and bits of the shopping bag have become entangled in the locking mechanism. Boot locked, won't open with key or manual button and car thinks boot is open. It only took Alpine 4 hrs to send recovery team and even then it was a massive recovery vehicle not a technician with a van full of goodies Oh well, they are sending another team out but was wondering if anyone else has had similar or heard of another case. Phone locked in there too for good measure!

Elise + Alpine = would be a good two car garage eh I'm struggling to wrestle my good lady out of the convenience of our ND MX5 or I'd seriously consider it !!
My buddy has 3x Lotus + 1x Alpine in his garage

Only in Track mode just before the limiter. Shouldn't do it any other time. Not aware of an option to switch it on or off. Or are you having difficulty differentiating between a beep and a fart?

Bit of an update on the beep. Only happens in sport mode only and happens every time I decelerate or the car changes gear automatically. The beep is coming from behind my head so managed to record it today. Can make it happen at will. Very Very annoying. That and the squeaking bloody seat is driving me insane.

Are you sure it isn't the "crack" (along with the fart) you get when you change gear or lift - if you have the sports exhaust? If it is, it should occur in track mode too. I’ve noticed a high-pitched whistle / squeak in just those circumstances: I assumed it to be the turbo wastegate dumping pressure when you lift off the gas (or the ECU decides to downchange). Doesn’t happen in Standard mode (presumably lower boost pressure?).It’s not that loud - sometimes I don’t even notice it. Bizarrely I quite like it though… it feels like the car is communicating what’s it’s doing.

Interesting conclusion which looks to support those who have felt the same even without the benefit of a B2B comparison. Perhaps there is a way to disconnect the sub? I assume the rest of the audio system would operate the same + the tweeters on the dashboard? I would think a reputable car infotainment specialist would be able to that (plus install Apple CarPlay whilst he's at it!) Edited by Franzino on Thursday 10th June 13:07

My boot is locked closed too. I’ve just not had time to drop the car in to get it released.Frada01 said:

This 'beep' will likely be a squeaky sports exhaust valve (hence why happens in sport mode), needs a visit to the dealer for check over (plenty have been replaced on warranty). This is when you tell me it doesn't have a sports exhaust! Bit of an update on the beep. Only happens in sport mode only and happens every time I decelerate or the car changes gear automatically. Ah - interesting… Thanks Dave. Will get that checked out at some point. Is failure an issue, or is it just the unwanted squeaking?Franzino very helpfully raised the issue of the A110's infotainment system, ie. that 'a reputable car infotainment specialist would be able to do that (ie. the Focal sub) and install Apple CarPlay...'
It's the latter I'm particularly interested in: so far, I've tried two infotainment system specialists (one of whom has dealt with the same issues for most other high-end marques including a Veyron!), but both came back after doing some research to tell me that replacing the 'head' of the A110's infotainment system was, effectively, impossible.
I'd love to be able simply to mirror (instead of just pairing) my iPhone and use the excellent Waze satnav via the A110's infotainment screen.
Has anyone here - or elsewhere, if it's known by PH contributors to this thread - managed to find a specialist who has successfully set up the A110's infotainment system and screen to mirror iPhones and provide CarPlay?

AFAIK nobody managed to put CarPlay or mirror a smartphone screen on the A110 infotainment.
Some guys on the French FAR forum have a thread describing some tries to do just that but it’s not there yet.

Interesting thought nevertheless about whether a decent ICE place could add a bit more control over the crossover between the woofers and the sub.
The sub only goes down slightly lower than the door speakers - 10hz according to Focal, but unless they say at what level that doesn't say a lot. Also the sub only an inch larger than the door speakers. The real problem is that the sub is so thin front to back there isn't enough space for a serious magnet OR a really cone shaped (and therefore rigid) speaker cone - both pre- requisites for good bass control.
On the Focal site it says 40Hz deeper, though they don't give a detailed response. First link is the system with sub. They claim down to 20Hz which I think relies on unconventional measurement standards. For some reason, Hifi manufacturers don't seem to like +/-3dB bandwidth, or posting the actual response curves.

There are some interesting new ways of improving speaker response with DSP and speaker monitoring in the commercial stuff. It's started appearing in prosumer desktop monitors, but I'm not sure it's in non-specialist car stuff yet.
