We had a couple of 5 GTLs back in 1979/80, a three door and then the five. Nice cars but bodywork a bit poor and the N-S engine layout made some servicing tricky.
This seems an exciting update, I would certainly consider one of these if it ever hits the showrooms. The grill on the bonnet is a nice design throwback. I wonder if the bonnet will hinge at the front, like the old models?

There's some Flair to that design.
I predict the launch will be a real Event.

They’ve told us at the launch we will be staying in tents!

I mean really, Camp, Us?

Best I could do. Soz

Love it, but this would be a winner
That would look great with rally light pods & Philips livery, being ragged around the Tour de Corse.
Just missing the soundtrack.

Agreed, the "wurrrr" of the electric motor and screeching of tyres would lose some appeal, but not a lot, could always do an engine conversion on it hehe

It's not out yet and there's a Roland Garros special edition hehehttps://www.autoexpress.co.uk/renault/360227/new-r...

It does look good though as a 'standard' model and not the Alpine model.

If the production car looks like that, with number plates where it says RENAULT on the front and back, happy days smile .

If the new R5 does end up looking like this and can do 100+ miles on a charge in winter then this is my next car purchase.

Not a fan at all as EV & I hate those but it will sell strongly if they can bring it close to the Yellow pre production mockup!

Only problem is few now want an EV so perhaps time to go back to an ICE hybrid engine instead...

The sales figures don’t back that assertion up.

Well they do with just over 15% of new cars in April 2023 being BEV and a projection of 22 per cent from the SMMT for the year. People are still buying petrol cars even without the skewed tax benefits.

15% of new sales isn’t so few that Renault are going to take a ground up designed EV, throw it away and change the propulsion. Be sensible.

Nobody is suggesting they should and I agree hybrids are not the answer.

The sad thing is that, awful wheels aside, this Renault represents an almost perfect design, for me, in an ocean of pug-ugly SUVs. The first design in an eon that is actually exciting without being too retro and at a decent price. I probably still won't buy one though.

I’ll be amazed if Renault actually bring it to the UK. The market share has dipped again so far this year, being outsold by Mazda and SEAT FFS!

Only registering 71 more Renault than Dacia. Bonkers.

Not a good time to be RUK. Putting all the eggs in the EV/Hybrid basket very early!

I think as you mentioned on here previously RUK are not going in the right direction for some time...I mean they could if they REALLY wanted to have bought the Ultime to UK...but no instead they want to push their rubbish current range instead.

If you tried you could not even make some of them much more ugly design styling wise they are hideous!!

RUK after sales care is appalling as well BTW I do most jobs myself now you just cannot trust them to do a good job & or drive the car afterwards (even when no need to do so!).

Sooner or later like all the other car makers Renault will be forced to side line EV or go bankrupt as not much point continuing with dead end tech consumers do not even want now the battery range & resale values truth's are mainstream talking points!!
