Looks nice that. With the older XY engine, but even rarer than the phase 2 car.

I’m on the lookout for a GTi is eBay and Facebook the best places to look? Looking for an unfinished project preferably trying to avoid major bodywork.

Why an XS? Nostalgia? Friend used to have one in the mid 90's. Decent enough car. But not a classic surely.

I can understand a Rallye or a GTI.

Rallye for ultimate low weight carb fed.
1.6 for purity of GTI feel & original.
1.9 for 'muscle'
Snap

Friend of a friend had one he drove it to college frequently nice car, he bought it as the GTI 1.6 or 1.9 wasn’t remotely possible to insure.

Would you choose an XS over a GTI 1.6 or 1.9 if condition history were identical but the car was free/ or identical price?

For XS equivalent I’d be sniffing out a Citroen AX GTI & a 309 GTI /405 Mi16

XS is in no way equivalent to an Mi16.

Sorry no I meant the AX was it’s equivalent, but given 405 Mi16/309 GTIs are always less loved ditto AX GTI you could get both for a 1.9 GTI

There are so few left and people know that they can now charge silly money for them. Probably be easier to recreate one from spares.

Yep, that red phase 1 has gone up another grand ( now 10 ) since thread started
Good luck with a phase 2 search - one will come up one day if you keep looking

Yes but as I say, probably a lot cheaper and easier to recreate one. Start with a red P2 3 door.

No, it's not a 205 or an XS but it's certainly a very, very worthy alternative:

There is one sitting / rotting on a driveway near me. House is probably worth £2m but drive is full of 80s relics. I'll get a pic next time I run past.

Well in that case, here isn't another XS (probably more fun!) needs a little work apparently:

I've got a white 205 XS for sale at the moment on eBay.

Won't link to it. Thanks

Saw that while looking for my GTI. My old XS remains one of my favourite cars, yours seems almost too cheap. Good luck with the sale.
