I am trying to identify a petrol tank sender from an unidentified tank in my kit car. The tank is in good nick but the sender is knackered. Could I send/post a photo to help ID it?

Better off asking in the relevant section, Neall.

Who is Neil chambers? What would you reckon is the relevant section? Can you tell I’m a total novice on pistonheads. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Difficult to say. Looks like it's from a donor tin-top being a bayonet fit rather than an aftermarket one that have 5 or 6 screws.
Mini van tanks were used on quite a few kits. Do you have a picture of the tank.

To AdiT
I don’t have a picture of the tank, but I will do my best to get one, thanks.

Neall.

I think the Mini ones were secured by screws so probably not one of those. Might be a ford unit. I'd check google images for various likely donor cars ones

That's a Ford sender unit, most likely Sierra but could be Escort or Granada, what kit car is it on?

Oakdale,
The car is a Rickman Ranger, short wheelbase. It’s being restored by a couple of mates of mine. I’m going to call them tomorrow to try and get a photo of the tank. Engine is a 1.6 pinto ford, which is running sweetly now. I bought another Rickman a couple years ago and we’re sacrificing that for parts. The sender is from the tank in my original car, which they found to be knackered. The tank is A1 OK. But we are struggling to identify the tank for certain.
Thanks for interest. Neall.

The Rickman Ranger was Ford Escort based wasn't it?

Oakdale,
Yes, sorry I omitted to say the kit is ford escort van based.

It reminds me of a Mk1/2 escort van sender that I had on my Dutton many years ago, I seem to remember the arm being on a unit attached to the steel suction pipe. The van sender differing from the standard by the tank being relatively shallow and rectangular and having a far shorter range of throw on the arm., I also think it only used a single wire with the tank needing to be earthed to complete it- but must say its from memory over 30 years ago.

Ozzie Dave,
Many thanks for the info. It looks very much as though it is ford gear. That’s the route I will be looking at now. When I have any more info I will update the post.

Yep that's definitely a tank sender.

Why don't you do the legwork and google any serial numbers etc?
