Not noticed the foot rest thing, but now I'm going to check! Heading to Germany in ours in 3 weeks. Really looking forwards to it.
My footrest is indeed carpet.

Not noticed an issue with it to be fair.

Would be interested to hear how people are getting on with their DS4s, and/or if anyone else has ordered one.

I'm currently trying to decide between DS4 and C5X. Had a good look at both recently (Citroen and DS dealers tend to be next to each other, which is handy smile). Will be organising test drives soon which will obviously help the decision making process.

Things I prefer about the C5X
  • It's a lot bigger, especially in the back and in the boot. DS4 I found to be pretty small in those areas
  • You get physical climate controls (for most but not all functions)
  • Screen is bigger (12" plays 10")
  • Cheaper to buy
Things I prefer about the DS4
  • Styling is sensational, both inside and out
  • Better quality materials, especially on the top end trim (of course you pay for it...)
  • Cabin is funkier
  • You can get the Focal Elektra audio package which I am told is amazing
At the moment I'm tipping slightly towards the C5X, but then I see a DS4 and tip back hehe Unfortunately you can't get the copper gold colour on the DS4 any more, which is a shame because it looks amazing. The DS4 colours are now (like the C5X) pretty boring, which disappoints me. These are quirky cars brought by people who don't want to run with the herd, why not offer some interesting colours? They are all made to order anyway, so it's not like they have to be worried about being stuck with a warehouse full of Kermit Green DS4s.

I'm not too familiar with the Citroën but I absolutly love my DS4

I count myself fortunate to have the copper gold and agree that its a strange move to make the colour choice so limited.

I come to this from a DS7 so I am fully engaged with the brand design ethos. I love bucking the trend of anonymity with so many cars that are available.

You're right, the rear space isn't generous although I have 2 car seats for the grand babies and our 2 spaniels are happy in the boot. We drove to Hanver last summer and the boot was more than adequate for the 2 of us.

Other than the local dealer on a test drive I am yet to see another one, which I love. Everyone that gets in is very impressed indeed.

I have a Performance Line+ e-tense. The published range on electric is rubbish. I charge at home and it tells me 17 Mike range on 100%. That doesn't bother me though as so many of my journeys are short. I've done 500 Mike's in 2023 and not visited a petrol station once.

It's so lovely and relaxing to drive and has a great turning circle.

I love mine and its been faultless.

I came very close to ordering a DS4 but it's just a bit too small in the back for me, it's a bit hard to get in and out and I felt that this would be a problem for my mum. If it had a bit more rear legroom then I would have done it, it's truly a lovely thing.

So I was thinking about the C5X and uhming and ahhing...and then noticed that the dealer had an approved used DS9 at a good price...so I've thrown caution to the wind and gone for that. Plan is to keep the DS9 for a couple of years at least and then see what other DS models are on offer.

I have to admit that I have somewhat fallen for DS as a brand. I just love what they are doing. They are making cars that appeal to the emotions, in a way that Jaguar used to. They are doing some interesting stuff with design, materials etc. at a time when others are playing safe, they are not afraid to be a bit different. And I think that the DS4 and DS9 are genuinely beautiful cars. Of course it's all in the eye of the beholder, but I've noticed that pretty much every online reviewer commends the design of those cars.

I think that DS are the best at small luxury cars, bar none. The DS3 is basically an Aston Martin Cygnet done properly.

Readers Cars thread to follow hopefully...I might end up being the first and only DS9 owner on PH smile

I do agree that the 4 is a bit small in the back. I have 2 grandkids seats in there most of the time and they are a snug fit rather than the space I had in my DS7.

I agree about being committed to DS. I love the exclusivity as well. I am yet to see another DS4 on the road.

I got invited to view the DS9 when they brought the only pre production model to my dealer. Its great and full of the DS dna. I wasn't looking for a saloon and would have one in a heartbeat over the comparable German options. It'll be interesting to read of your ownership experience.

Great choice with the DS9.

I am currently agonising over trading my alpine in for a ds9. I love the alpine but a harsh winter and increased demand for kids wanting lifts with their mates is making it a problematic second car . Our DS7 Louvre is magnificent, so I may well swap the alpine for a ds9. I am kind of hoping they bring a couple of those opera premiere spec ones over and discount them heavily!

Do it! smile

I can say from experience that DS dealers are serious about making sales right now.

Yes I probably will !

I am also very much committed to the DS brand - I have had some amazing cars over the years, but the DS7 family wagon we have is near perfect. It looks fantastic, the opera interior with the watchstrap leather is beautiful, it is supremely comfortable, fast and has been utterly bullet proof reliability wise after 20k miles. It is like new still and after a run of shocking range rovers and VAG wagons is a blessing.

I have heard whispers of some really funky electric stuff coming from DS to be revealed late this year. I like the concept of them being twinned with Alfa in these Stellantis premium showrooms- the alfas being the sporty premium brand and ds the comfy and bling brand. With both pug and Citroen on strong form and in their niches nicely, it allows DS to be quite ‘ out there’ in the future.

I think the DS pure electric stuff (meaning the stuff that is designed from the ground up to be electric, rather than the conversions of ICE models) could be very interesting indeed. DS have the opportunity to be the luxury counterparty to Polestar. Sort of like a Jaguar for the modern age. That is a big market, and one which the Chinese companies will struggle in.

IMHO Stellantis are absolutely top of the pack in terms of design these days. Even the new Vauxhall Astra - a car that everyone loved to make fun of - looks pretty tidy.
